This picture makes me want to switch to liking Gale instead of Peeta, but I gotta stay faithful to the boy with the bread. <3 Great picture, so excited for the premiere!

Am I the only one who thinks Liam looks WAY too blonde in this pics?

    ...Always...

@Anonymous. Maybe it’s just the light…? And everyone is just going crazy about everything :-D

Is this the whipped scene? If no Darius, I don’t know who gonna give the intervention. /shrug

Btw, I want Gale’s jacket. So manly. :)

I think Liam looks so handsome with that hair *faint*, but WHY?! I know it should not bother me, but I don’t want Gale and Peeta with the same hair color! I am being childish, I know u_uU.

His hair does seem lighter to me, And Katniss’ is a little darker (maybe?)! But I trust Francis.. Trying to ;)
But ALL the pictures look great!!! He’s doing such a great job. I do miss Gary, but I know Francis has alot in store as well!<3

GUYS ALL THIS NEW INFO AND ALL THESE PHOTOS ARE STREAMING OUT. Yes, the teaser trailer for THG came out 7 months before. But this is Catching Fire, and who’s to say that the teaser isn’t as far away as we think…I think it’s coming out before April.

Is that the old lady that gave her the pin in the background?! So exciting!

Why do you guys care about HAIR COLOR, maybe because I’m a boy and i don’t understand girls. But all i care about is how their performance will be.

i am loving his clothes, the gloves especially. (is that weird of me?). his hair does look lighter than jennifer’s, but as long as it’s not blond i’m fine with it. looking forward to his scenes with katniss!

@sharkz!anon– thread might stop the whipping when haymitch, peeta and katniss burst in, or after the mandatory amount of lashings have been dispensed, or simply when gale passes out. there doesn’t HAVE to be an intervention.

I kind of feel that Katniss jumping in front of the whip to save Gale should be mandatory. It shows how selfless and brave she is when people she loves are in danger and what she’ll do to protect them. It’s up there with volunteering for Prim.

@Carla: Thread wouldn’t stop the whipping because Gale has passed out. The whole point is how ruthless the new peacekeeping regime is. And IMO they have to show Katniss jumping in in front of the whip to save Gale’s life. Maybe they just won’t give her a big gash on the face.

@Joe: People care about hair color because it’s a big demarcation between the “Seam” people, like Gale and Katniss (who are supposed to look very alike; and Liam and Jennifer looked a lot alike in the first movie) and the “town” people like Peeta. All three of them have had their hair dyed for the movie anyway, so there’s no reason for Liam’s hair to be dyed lighter than Jen’s. Maybe it’s just the lighting, and it will all look different after post-production.

@Joe the reason I’m concerned about Gale’s lighter hair color is because it’s a lack of consistency.

    @Stevie: That’s exactly what I was thinking!

I have two complaints with Gale’s hair being lighter is that it’s 1.) A lack of consistency and 2.) His hair is supposed to match Katniss’s so it’s believable that they are cousins. Other than that, I love the look of District 12 so far. It looks…I don’t know… grimier maybe.

I LOVE that Jen’s hair is nearly black (it’s supposed to be black in the book… look it up on page 8 of THG). In THG, her hair was more of a coppery medium brown, which was definitely not accurate to the book. Liam’s hair is too light to resemble a person from the Seam.

@Ivana– i see your point, and he definitely did not stop in the book, i’m just saying they could find a way to make him stop and still have his utter ruthlessness come across. as in, he doesn’t stop out of the goodness of his heart, he stops because he gets his jollies off torturing people and once they’re unconcious there’s no entertainment value anymore. kind of like gamemakers with the games.

don’t get me wrong, i’d love to see katniss jump in front of the whip just as much as anyone else, it was a powerful moment for certain, but it’s not like it’s the only scene where she proves her selflessness. she’s been doing that since the beginning– this whole thing started because she volunteered for prim at the reaping, didn’t it?

(another alternative that occurred to me is, they may have her push the peacekeeper who’s whipping gale away from him, and then make him turn like he’s about to snap the lash in her direction when haymitch and peeta interrupt. that is, if they really don’t want to deal with her cheek wound).

@Carla: Yes, it’s not the first nor the last time that Katniss shows her selflessness, but there’s a big part of the fandom that never seemed to register any of that and that insists that Katniss is a cold, selfish, souless sociopath incapable of love! I don’t know which books they have read, but you can apparently never have enough of Katniss’ selfless acts, and in the end it’s still not enough for some people.

Especially since I’m sure that, when Catching Fire comes out, the rampant misogyny will rear its ugly head and we’ll hear a lot of comments about how horrible Katniss is for “leading on two guys” (which is, for many, the biggest crime in the world, apparently). I’m trying not to have a big rant about this, but I’ve seen many comments by people who either 1) love Gale or 2) hate Katniss with the idea that Katniss was “using” poor Gale and that he “deserved” to be with her “for all he did for her”. Those views smack of the Nice Guy (TM) mentality – the idea that male/female friendship is just something that a guy “gives” a woman and that she should reward with romance/sex. They also ignore the fact that Katniss and Gale were in fact helping each other and doing things for each other, as friends do; I have no doubt that Katniss would have taken care of Gale’s family if he were to go to the Arena and done her best to save them, and she did try to help them financially when she could – but Gale was too stubborn and proud and accept, so when she couldn’t help them directly, she found Hazelle a job as Haymitch’s housekeeper. (I also remember a “Team Gale” fan saying in a HG Fireside Chat podcast that Gale taught Katniss to hunt, when actually her father taught her; Gale taught her to make traps, but Katniss was always a better shot than he was.) But no matter how much I may grind my teeth at that, we do need to see how much Katniss cares for Gale. And while she does a lot of bigger selfless acts before and after, even to the point of wanting to give her life for Peeta, that’s the only time she was in the position to do and did something like that for Gale.

So, while I don’t think that Katniss will get an injury, since they probably wouldn’t want Jennifer to have a wound/scar for half a movie, I think we need to see her stepping in front of the whip. I like your idea how we could have that without the actual wound.

Maybe it’s b/c I’m sick with a cold, but I’m confused. It seems many people are jumping to conclusions that I DON’T think are supported by the available evidence.

Carla, I usually really enjoy your insights because you understand that films are a different medium from the books. But I don’t understand why you seem so convinced that Katniss jumping in front of the whip will also be cut?

Well, at least you’re not concluding, as I’ve even seen others do, that they think the ENTIRE whipping scene will be cut! :O Unfortunately, so far, this article has not shown THG fandom at its best. It’s sad, really.

I think that Katniss greeting whipped in the eye will be cut out because it would have to take time to heal. In the movie you can’t make her get the wound and then in 10 min it’s gone. I like Carla alternative when she is about to be whipped and haymitch comes to save both. The whipping scene is in there because Francis said it was in an article. He said that Katniss and Gale have a sweet moment after the whipping
