Jennifer Lawrence 70th Annual Golden Globe

Congratulations to Jennifer Lawrence who has won Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) for ‘Silver Linings Playbook’! At her hilarious best when accepting the award Jennifer looked at her statue and quipped “What does this say? ‘I Beat Meryl!’”, a reference to the film ‘The First Wives Club’, and jokingly thanked Harvey Weinstein (who helped produce the film) “for killing whoever you had to kill to get me up here today”. Jen also thanked her family and fellow cast members in what was a truly memorable speech for the actresses first Golden Globe win.

To view videos of the evening, including the introduction of the award (hilarious!) and Jen’s acceptance speech, plus photos from the night, read on!

I still can’t believe the room was pretty silent at the Meryl joke, like come on people a) it’s a joke and b) it’s a film reference in a room full of film stars!

Loved the speech, you could tell it meant a lot to Jen, plus both Bradley and her Mum gave her the biggest hugs and had huge smiles too.

oh dear lord, i think that introduction killed me. oh gosh, my side hurts from laughing too much. :D

i loved her speech, even with the joking you can tell she’s so moved and emotional by having won, and it just makes every word she says sound sincere and so real (you know, like every other day in the life of jennifer lawrence. ;) ) i squealed at the way her mother was almost jumping up and down when she hugged her, so cute. and i love that she thanked her brothers even though they weren’t there.

@tash– i keep finding links that talk about how the meryl joke “divided the internet” and i’m like what the heck? it was just a joke, what’s the big deal? it was funny! FWIW, the audience did laugh. it was kind of a slow-growing burst of laughter, but i think it’s because it took them all a while to get it, haha. :P

at 2:52 on he second video that’s how I was the whole time Will Ferrell and that other girl were talking I just didn’t think they were very funny.

@Carla – Oh good, I sort of heard a few chuckles towards the end but must not have had the volume up loud enough to catch them all laughing by the end. I was cracking up, it’s a pity Meryl wasn’t there on the night cos I reckon she would have had a laugh about it :)

@tash– yeah, i had my earphones on, so i could hear it. and i know, meryl would’ve gotten a kick out of it, i’m sure! it sucks that she wasn’t there, she would’ve put all of this silly nonsense about it being a “dig” at her to rest.

@Carla – Absolutely, she would have seen the humour to it all. Thankfully though I guess it looks like this “controversy” has been over shadowed by the Jodie Foster “controversy” so the web has something else to get in a tizz about!!

I have to remember too that not everyone loves Jen the way we do lol
