Jennifer Lawrence Highlights on Saturday Night Live
Those of you that didn’t get a chance to see Jennifer Lawrence hosting Saturday Night Live last night can view highlight videos below. These are NBC videos and therefore probably restricted outside the USA, so if anyone has an unofficial link to a video, please let us know.
Jennifer’s monologue:
Jennifer on the Girlfriend Talk Show:
Hunger Games Press Conference:
Jennifer in Love Letters:
Jennifer in More Hobbit:
Top Dog Chef:
Jennifer rapping on B-108 Morning Show:
50s Diner:

Love the 50′s diner one! She is so good at being serious.
they’re really not that funny (the only one that made me laugh out loud was the dog one, but even so it was kind of weird), but because of the writing.. not because of Jennifer. SNL used to be really funny but now it’s only slightly more watchable than Jimmy Fallon’s talk show, i’m sure they have some good segments once in a while but.. not often enough for me to watch it regularly.
i’m glad she got to host it though, it’s the kind of thing every popular actor should do at least once in their career. and she got to be in so many segments.. i dunno if that’s the usual though, that’s 7 segments plus her intro.
I totally agree. I liked the hobbit one, but that was actually one of the worst snl’s i’ve seen in a long time. Jennifer Lawrence was great!!! But the writing was just SO BAD!!!!!!!!!!! I think that’s a pretty stupid move on their part for a few reasons:
1. There was probably a whole bunch of HG fans that dont usually watch snl but watched this episode, and so, had it been a good episode, they would have gained a lot of fans from a different demographic than they normally have (like preteens). Now a whole bunch of kid’s first impressions of SNL will be that it’s a really bad show.
2. They just came back from break! THEY HAD SOOO MUCH TIME TO WRITE THESE SKETCHES!!! How is that POSSIBLY all they came up with!!
I love SNL when it’s good. This was NOT one of those times.
thee thg skit wasn’t funny at all. I ‘ve watched better parodies than that. I also feel bad with the joke about ” Peeta” ‘s height because it wasn’t a joke about Peeta but clearly about the actor Josh Hutcherson instead. It felt so wrong.
I agree-they had nothing funny so they had to attack him personally. Was so wrong on many levels and very disappointing that Jenn was involved.
I could’t agree more. Besides not being funny, was offensive to Josh. Further it isn’t even true that she is a loooooot taller than he (they have practically the same height). I was very disappointed with Jennifer – what kind of a friend is she?
what do you mean what kind of friend she is, you think she would have done it without josh being okay with this?! i swear you assholes piss me off and most of you only watched SNL cause Jenifer Lawrence hosted, am i right, well i a a huge SNL fan and watched it every Saturday way before Huger Games and no i am not old but i starting watching the show from a younger age as i could handle it). Also who the hell are you acting like you know all these celebrities, do you even know what really happened, were you there, did Jenifer, josh or a friend of those 2 actor’s tell you? no so stop making these rude assumptions cause Jenifer has been bullied allot by you people from the day she first auditioned, no one deserves this and you should be happy they even a a hunger games skit, they never called josh short, but he is shorter then Jenifer and they just exaggerated it, you think josh cares, no cause he knows its not true and if he did he would have never become an actor as these things happen, so shut your damn mouths cause you don’t know if that’s true you are just looking at a glimpse of the story through dirty glass, your not getting the exact picture, you can say you didn’t like the skit but you can’t be rude to others calling them bad friends, whats wrong with you, YOUR A BAD PERSON! especially when Jenifer has been made fun of her weight, cause apperantly being normal is too fat now and that she is blond, shut yourself up
Ugh, cheap shot about Josh’s height. Disappointing that Jen went along with it, especially when it’s inaccurate. Flat-footed, they’re almost exactly the same height. You just wouldn’t know it because of those six-inch stilettos.
I agree with the comment below that stage work or some formal training could benefit Jen greatly. Being onstage or in a live environment like SNL is a very different ballgame than being on recorded film or TV, and that’s where training and/or improv experience can really make a difference.
This is not a bash against Jen at all – I actually feel the same way about Josh’s acting. As tremendously talented as I think he is, he could realize many of the same benefits by pushing himself further along these lines.
I can’t see them!!!!!! ;(
You aren’t missing anything, promise.
Yea there’s a general consensus I agree with that this episode was a huge disappointment. It really highlights how lame the show can become without great comedians like Ferrell, Fallon, Rudolph, Fey, Poehler, and Wiig. The main cast is great, but the new recruits can be lackluster. (Cecily Strong does the same voice in every skit and Tim Robinson is a little awkward and boring.) I really wanted Jennifer to have somebody great to work off of in a scene, but the skits didn’t allow for that. Which brings me to my next point – the writing in this episode was poor. None of the skits were too exciting or fun, and I didn’t see the same kind of innovation I’ve seen before. Nothing surprised me. Worse yet, only one skit decided to showcase Jennifer’s talent – the 50′s diner one (yea, the HG one was awful). And, of course, the 50′s diner turned out to be the best one, though it was short. I hope Jennifer returns to host, but that the writers do better and put her in situations where she can show off her acting aside SNL’s best comedians.
The writing was poor but a better performance could have redeemed some of it. Unfortunately, except for a few spots, Jennifer performance was mediocre. I think the problem may have been that the SNL format plays to her weakness as an actress. All of her experience is in film and television. She has had no formal acting training and, except for church plays, no experience acting on stage. As a film actress she is brilliant and in a one to one interview situation no one is better. However, these are not the same as being on stage in front of a live audience. This was particularly evident in her opening monologue where poor timing and misplaced emphasis took weak material and made it weaker. Jennifer is still very young and if she tried could almost certainly become a very good stage actor. However, she has made it clear that her passion is film and that is where she wants to make her career (eventually behind the camera). I’m looking forward to her debut as a director.
I agree with this 100%……….The one person who gave this a “thumbs down”, is clearly a delusional fan. Jen is a great actress, but its clear she has no real training. She’s raw talent, which is good for film, no so much for live acting. The “bad skits” could have been better had she delivered her punch lines better.
A great trained actress(ala Bea Arthur, Elaine Stritch) could have made reading the phone-book funny
A disappointing episode
especially when they had someone as funny a J Law hosting. They hardly used her in the skits and the writing was god awful. I thought she did well with what she had but the skits were hardly funny at all. I loved her rapping parts in one of the skits and I guess short Peeta was funny, her minuscule part in the Hobbit digital short was awesome too. What was up with the Top Dog Chef skit?? Honestly, I feel like they owe her a second chance.
Jennifer Lawrence was pretty good on SNL the other night, even if the skits weren’t that great. I thought the trash talking about the Oscar nominees was hilarious though. I was working late at DISH on the night that she hosted, so I wasn’t’ able to see her perform live. I set up my DISH Hopper DVR to automatically record SNL, so I wasn’t behind for long. I like that I can keep the whole season on my DVR in addition to other shows since it holds about 2000 hours of shows.
really an advertisment
can’t see them, but judging by the other comments, the videos were not very amusing
I think she did an alright job. Her monologue and the girlfriend talk show were kind of embarrassing. Maybe it was because it was her first two skits and she was nervous. Of course I don’t blame her I blame the SNL writers. The 50′s diner and top dog chef were funny though. And by the way, I think the short joke was totally ok.
I Can’t see them!!!!
i don’t know, i actually quite liked the hunger games skit, i thought it was hilarious. yeah, the whole thing with josh being shorter than jennifer has been done and overdone, but hey, if jen can poke fun at it why should i take offense? i’m sure josh saw the humor in it– he and jen are just a text message away, after all. it’s like the whole thing with jen’s golden globes speech and meryl streep; it’s just a joke. it’s a parody, and obviously exaggerated for laughs. i get that some people don’t find it funny, but from that to it being offensive? and this is coming from a short person– you learn to see the humor in those sort of things.
my favorite part of the skit was when seneca asked if there was a question for peeta and there was just silence… it reminded me of those gifs on tumblr where everybody’s going on about katniss being the girl on fire and peeta’s like “hey guys, remember i was set on fire too… no, really, i was… guys? hey guys!”. it just cracked me up.
i do think it went on for a bit longer than it should have, but for the most part i thought it was funny.
the rest of the show, not so much. they seemed to keep her as a secondary character for most of the skits, which i didn’t like. but i did have my moments when i chuckled here and there. during her monologue it was obvious that she was nervous, but personally i thought it was endearing on her, it made her seem young and sweet. seeing her with the elf ears in the hobbit skit absolutely made my year (holy grail of geekitude right there! i liked the idea of that sketch, at least), and i also liked her in the radio show sketch; even though she was underused and the sketch itself was very blah, i just loved it whenever she went “whaddup haaaaaaay!”. it was cute.
all in all, i’m more let down by the SNL writers than jennifer. i knew SNL’s quality had gone down– there’s a reason i haven’t watched a full episode since the tina fey days– but i guess i can say that for sure now. too many of the skits went on for too long (the radio show, the 50′s diner), some of them didn’t have a point at all (that danielle skit, really?), and some were obviously filler (the starbucks talking coffee machine thing). but i thought jen did pretty great for what she was given. clearly it’s very different, performing live to acting in a movie or just being herself while on an interview, but she’s young and she’s got a lot of room to grow in her acting experience. just because she’s up for an oscar doesn’t mean she can do everything. i loved seeing her in such an important venue as SNL, and i hope she gets more chances to play up her funny side in the future!
“it’s like the whole thing with jen’s golden globes speech and meryl streep; it’s just a joke.”
The difference is that joking about beating Meryl (in the movie or in the speech) isn’t actually offensive to Meryl Streep – quite the opposite, it’s an acknowledgment of how great she is and that beating her is really something. Whereas making fun of people’s height or weight or other physical characteristics IS offensive, not to mention unfunny, in poor taste, and on the primary school level of maturity. The only time it’s OK is when a person is making fun of themselves.
I think you guys are over thinking this thing. The skit was about THGs, not about Jen, Josh, or Wes. The jokes were aimed at their characters, not them. In the movie, isn’t Katniss taller than Peeta??? YES!!! Now, had they made jokes about “Peeta’s” jaw, that would be different.
I disagree because had they been focusing on Peeta like they were originally in the sketch there would have nothing to say about a height difference. ( Katniss did not wear heels in THG so she and Peeta are same height)
Jenn in real life(premieres) wears 6 inch heels and she then towers over Josh-so it was so obvious they went from making fun of Peeta the character to making fun of Josh.
i think the thing about the meryl joke is that, while it does imply that beating meryl is a high achievement, it also comes across as gloating, which CAN be an affront to the involved party. hence why half of the internet seemed to get on jennifer’s case for “dissing” her, when they did not realize she meant it as a joke. my point was that it’s something people are taking seriously when the person involved most likely has no problem with it.
while i agree that making fun of someone because of a physical characteristic is a very delicate thing (not everybody means well with it, and not everybody knows how to take it), i think if someone is secure enough in who he/she is, they can see the humor behind it, when it’s well-intentioned. like i said above, i’m very short myself (josh would seem tall in comparison, i’m sure), and while growing up i used to get my fair share of jokes and teasing about it. but because of that i’ve learned to distinguish when someone means it as an offense, and when someone is just trying to lighten the mood. i laugh with my friends when they offer to fetch me a bucket to stand on or similar, because i know they only do it out of familiarity. i am small; no point ignoring it and no reason to feel inferior because of it, so i find it very easy to laugh about it– and quite honestly, it’s saved me a lot of stress through the years.
similarly, i think as long as josh himself doesn’t have a problem with it, then i don’t need to have a problem with it. like i said, he and jennifer are friends and can contact each other whenever they want, so who’s to say he didn’t give her the okay? if he’s secure enough with his height (from every interview i’ve read about that touches upon that topic, i believe he has no problem with the fact that he’s slightly shorter than her), and he didn’t mind it being used as a joke on a comedy show, then i don’t feel any guilt for it drawing a chuckle out of me.
now, that’s not to say that speaks to the quality of the joke. could they have come up with something better? sure. i already said i believe the writing on SNL has gone down considerably in the last few years and just because i found the skit funny doesn’t mean everyone else should have. but from that to it being offensive, well, my personal life experience, at least, and everything i’ve come to know about josh hutcherson, makes me disagree with that. but of course, that’s just my opinion.
I doubt that the SNL writing team consulted Josh about writing that skit. But even if they did by some miracle – it’s still shallow, stupid, tasteless and offensive to make fun of a man being somewhat below average height and imply that this is something that people should feel inferior about. Would it be OK to make jokes about a normal-sized actress being incredibly fat? Those kinds of attitudes don’t hurt just the people in question, they are sending messages to men and women, and boys and girls. Would you agree that it’s bad to tell girls and women that women who aren’t incredibly thin are “fat” and should be laughed at, and that this creates body image issues? Then how is it OK to tell boys and men that they should feel inferior if they are at least somewhat below average height? I find the habit of mocking shorter male actors for their height particularly hypocritical – Tom Cruise was mocked for years supposedly because he wore lifts and wanted to look taller on screen; but when someone doesn’t wear lifts and doesn’t try to appear taller than he is, like Josh Hutcherson, they mock him all the time.
@Carla – well said. I don’t necessarily agree with all of it, but a short person’s opinion has more weight in this discussion.
And I agree that I’m probably more vicariously sensitive about Josh’s height than he is himself.
@Ivana – you know, all the mockery there tends toward the same purpose – busting on short guys whether they try to conceal it like Tom or own it like Josh. It’s a shame. Wearing lifts would of course be Josh’s choice to do or not, but I confess I kind of hope he doesn’t. I like his current approach toward the whole vertically-challenged thing.
The problem is that they made it seem like there is no way Katniss would ever fall for Peeta, because he is slightly shorter than her. And, also, Josh did an interview before where he did say that it did bother him, and people used to bully him all the time. If there was a sketch where somebody made a comment about Katniss being “fat,” everybody would be all up in arms.
Really? What interview was that? I’d love to read his comments if you can recall the source.
If that’s true, it saddens me. I’d hate for him to have spent one minute feeling bad about something over which he has no control.
I will try to find it. I saw someone had put up a scan of the article the other day on Tumblr.
Thanks!
I couldn’t find the scan, but here is the quote, it is from M Magazine.
“Josh Hutcherson has seen almost all of his dreams come true – he scored the role of Peeta in the Hunger Games, he’s quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s “IT” guys, and he’s always surrounded by tons of close friends. But the truth is, there’s one wish that Josh would love to come true the most: He wants to be taller! “I’m really insecure about my height,” Josh confesses only to M. “I’m not a very tall guy… I’m only like 5’7”! It bugs me a lot.” Josh knows that his height is not something he can control, but it’s made t hard for him to feel confident. “I have shorter parents, so I get it.” he confides to us. “I’ve slowly come to accept it and be happy with it. If I’m upset about it, it’s not going to change – you can’t change how much you grow.” Growing up, Josh also had to learn how to ignore bullies who teased him for his height. “I just started to not care about what people said,” Josh tells M. “What matters is how you feel about yourself – It doesn’t matter what anybody else thinks. As long as you’re OK with yourself, that’s all that matters.”
Wow. Sounds like it was (and sometimes still is) a real struggle for him. That actually makes me feel worse about the SNL thing, even though I know he’s gotten better about dealing with it. Thanks for digging that up.
Now that I read this, the whole thing upsets me even more. Is obvious that he got hurt.
Hey SPM/Anon-so agree with you two! It has to be such a pain in the butt for an actor to keep hearing about his height—just like Jenn must feel when they call her “fat” when she is just a normal size!
I only hope that Josh did not get offended and is so confident in his abilities. He sure should be confident-has been making movies for years and is likely making millions from THG and his production company-so he is doing better than the non funny SNL writers they have at this time!
I’ m so agree with you anonymous.
“The problem is that they made it seem like there is no way Katniss would ever fall for Peeta, because he is slightly shorter than her. ”
You know, this kind of thing makes me glad that the actors they cast happened to have that height difference. It’s not like anyone planned it, but it gives the movie an opportunity to challenge and shatter another absurd and sexist stereotype. I find it pretty sad when some fans also criticize the casting just because they wanted Peeta to be taller than Katniss as he is in the books. Was hers or his height ever important to their relationship? Why exactly is it important for a man to be taller than the woman, what necessary purpose does it serve? And if someone’s appreciation of a relationship depends on whether the guy is taller than the girl, that someone has some pretty screwed up priorities.
I don’t agree with your point of view :I don’t think it’s okay to make fun or insult someone because that person is okay with herself/himself and feels good and secure. So it’s allow to do that.
I don’t understand what the fuss is all about. To the mainstream world, Josh is Peeta. So I doubt they intended to throw jabs at Josh.
Well, they did. It’s not like they don’t know there’s an actor playing Peeta, it’s not a CGi character. Or that the SNL people believed that Peeta was meant to be incredibly short and that Josh isn’t so they were making Jennifer stand on stools. And it’s not like he even looks that short in the movie, so I find it hard to believe that the joke is there just because of those Hollywood events where Josh and Jennifer appear together and she wears 6 inch heels and towers over him.
Well, most likely they haven’t read the books so they don’t see it that way
It doesn’t actually make any difference. When you’re joking about a movie character’s looks, you’re joking about the actor’s looks, unless their appearance was changed for the movie (e.g. a body suit to make someone look fat, make-up to change their features, camera angles and other movie tricks to make someone taller etc.). I’m sure they realize that Jennifer didn’t have to stand on boxes to be (barely) taller than Josh. And I’m sure that they have seen what Josh looks like in real life – as a matter of fact, I doubt that they would be making this joke if they hadn’t seen Josh next to Jennifer in 6-inch stilettos at Hollywood premieres.
I understand what you’re saying, but I doubt they looked at it that way, I know I didn’t. All they thought about was that Katniss is tall and Peeta is short.
They did, because Peeta is supposed to be stocky with medium height.. So it has nothing to do with Peeta as a character. But the actor’s height compare to jennifer lawrence ( who isn’t much higher than him either without high heels )
They made fun a the actor here, because the joke has nothing to do with peeta’s character at all.
Jennifer Lawrence is 5’9 JOsh is either 5’9 or 5’10 So he isn’t short Jenn is just tall.
Josh says he’s 5’7″, Jennifer says she’s 5’8″. It’s a very small difference. But when she wears 6-inch heels at Hollywood events, she’s over 6′. Which doesn’t actually have any bearing on the movie where she doesn’t wear those heels.
But in the movie…Peeta is in fact shorter than Katniss….Most likely, they didn’t read the book
SNL hasn’t been consistently funny in years. Some might argue decades. Maybe it’s harder to come up with good comic bits these days, what with everybody putting their own personal funnies up on YT and such. Seriously, though….mean waitresses? Starbucks parody? It’s not like that’s ever been done before! And the height joke was lame because, again, that’s all you’ve got? It’s been done to death and just comes off as bashing now. It was an embarressing effort from the writers. JL didn’t seem entirely comfortable at times, but some of her efforts succeeded despite the material. I hope she gets a nice long break once all the awards hoopla is over.
When I saw the monologue I thought she was reading the whole thing (I don’t know if she actually was) so it didn’t look funny at all :-/ …The Hunger Games bit was funny, althought I agree it goes more to Josh tan Peeta (Except for the fact that everyone forgot about him over Katniss, which I really hope they can change in Catching Fire :-/d )
All sketches were funny. but not hilarious…Some even dumb. It’s actually the first (and probably last) time I watched the show but I didn’t like it that much and they could do a lot more with Jennifer :/
I remember when I was in 7th grade everybody was obsessed with this show and now that I’ve seen clips of it… why? Glad I didn’t waste my time on it… not that I was even allowed in 7th grade.
Kate-I am one of the older fans(my daughter is do into THG) and it is something we share–
Being older I can tell you that many years ago SNL was hysterical and it was a fun time to watch it every Saturday evening. Being a lifetime New Yorker -you grew up knowing this show.
Try to see if you can catch the original SNL skits–nutty and hysterical! And also the shows from 10-15 years ago were also funny-even just a few years ago when Kristin Wiig was still there-was funny.
The group they have writing now is not funny at all!
I don’t get all the hate. I thought it was funny (The Hunger Games spoof). It’s just a joke. I think people seriously need to take a chill pill. Agreed, it’s not the best spoof. But I thought the jab on PEETA’S (not Josh’s) height was funny too.
I liked Jen but not the SNL part so much.
I am not American so maybe it’s just cultural gap that makes it not funny to me. Don’t understand why it is that weight jokes are offensive but height jokes are supposed to be O.K. Would it be funny if the subject was Jen’s curvy figure and the “hunger” part of the games?
IMO, it’s good humor when Josh makes fun of his own height but bad taste when someone else does that.
I cannot believe some of you are giving Jen heat for ‘making fun’ of Josh’s height. You DO realize she didn’t wrote it right? When an actor signs up for a sketch comedy show like SNL, they are prepared to do whatever the show ask of them. If she says no then people would then call her a diva and unprofessional. And if she did it, here you are hating her for it. It’s ACTING. It’s NOT REAL. If you guys can’t tell the difference between a joke and an insult then I really have nothing left to say. I expected better from this fandom that’s all.
Finally! Somebody with a brain!
I don’t know about the others, but I certainly wasn’t criticizing Jennifer – she signed up to do those skits so she was going to do them. I was criticizing SNL’s writing team, who wrote unfunny, unimaginative and occasionally tasteless and offensive jokes.
I know, it’s just that some people are literally having a heart attack about the whole Peeta joke at the end. I thought it was funny in a way.
LOL. These pronouncements on the fandom at large crack me up. Who died and appointed you the arbiter of all things Hunger Games?
Nicki, it’s the snl writters , I’m blaming too. Now it’s sad that Jennifer Lawrence had been trapped by them with a such offensive joke against her co star Josh Hutcherson.
Nicki-never criticized Jen for doing the skit at all-most of us stated that we were disappointed that she was involved in such a skit. Of course she had to do it as she is under contract–and knowing how SNL works they might not have told her that they were going to do the skit until that day.(they write different skits for the week and switch them around until final decisions made on Saturday)–as of the day before Jenn had noted there would be no THG skit.
Come Saturday they might have told her that it was back in—I think that this might have added to he’d uncomfortableness during the show and people’s perception that she looked like she really did not want to be there.
No one is blaming Jenn as she had no say in the material—we just feel bad that she had to be included because it must have been hard for her given her close relationship with Josh.
Jen is MUCH better at improvisation then she is at sketches
I had mixed feelings overall (more with the writing, not Jen). But can we all just agree that the barking dogs at the doorbell thing was hilarious?!?!! Like, I was just cracking up laughing at it. Now THERE was something good about the episode (large thanks to Jen).
You would think that A-list actors would have their handlers screen the content of a show like SNL, and protect themselves from looking uncomfortable and awkward. She should have known better than to appear on this show. She was unfunny, out of her element, and appeared amateurish. It’s not like she needs SNL to advance her career. However, the look and style she had in that “girlfriends” skit was smoking hot!! (from a guys perspective).
That’s a great idea, but if it were implemented no celeb would ever go on the show. The writing really is that bad. Last time I watched a full ep was in ’92 and it wasn’t funny then.
Seriously – it’s just SNL which has very little relevance as it is. I thought this would be funnier because of the promos with Jason S. which were funny and she seemed relaxed. The monologue was off either timing or it seemed as if she was thinking “why did I do this…” Oh well, it’s over and done….
That monologue was painful to watch. If the Academy hasn’t voted already, I don’t like her chances after this. Even if someone else told her to say all that. It’s pretty distasteful.
The 50s diner was pretty awesome though. The part with the knife killed me.
I found them!!
