Confirmed: Iris van Herpen Will NOT Design Costume for Catching Fire
Although it was reported a few days ago that Dutch fashion designer Iris van Herpen would be involved in creating a costume for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (widely speculated to be Katniss’s wedding gown that then burns into a mockingjay costume), it seems van Herpen’s decidedly Capitol-esque style won’t make it into the film after all: Fashionista spoke to van Herpen’s reps and confirmed that the designer is not involved with the Catching Fire production, nor any of the film’s actresses.
Seems like the job of creating this iconic look for Katniss is still firmly on Catching Fire costume designer Trish Summerville’s hands! Are you excited to see this scene in the movie? What do you think it will be like? Let us know in your comments.

So they haven’t filmed this scene yet? I thought when they filmed the Victory Tour interview they would have filmed this as well in order to save time for Stanley Tucci not to have to come back and film.
She is Dutch, not Belgian….
you’re completely right– sorry about that! and thanks for letting me know, i’ve corrected the post now.
Yes am looking forward to this scene as it is pivotal–but so confused—have they filmed this scene yet or not? Is this one of the scenes they have to come back to do in march?
I wonder if the fashion designers are having inner conflicts of giving up their designs for a movie where the world of fashion is being criticized as luxurious, unnecessary and pointless?
Has anyone ever asked that question in an interview?
I mean only the capitol people like the dresses and they are the people that are seen as heartless and out of touch with what is going on.
This movie does kind of make fashion designers seem pointless when there are people out there who could go to school for 20 years or have enough food, if they would be given the money of one dress.
Very true! But I doubt fashion designers would not wanna be part of something that means TONS of publicity. I think we should not critisize the capitol but notice the remarkable resemblance between us and them. And just see this franchise as a warning of what we can become, in a way, we do go to the movies for the same reason the Capitol watches the Hunger Games (many violent movies beimg the example of that) mindless entertainment.
She would be a very capitol like designer. But when I think about her designing the mocking jay dress I see Katniss in the dress that this article is showing. It doesn’t seem very Cinna like either. So I’m glad she isn’t designing the dress.
