Film Commissioner Confirms Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth Were in NJ
With confirmation that the GGX production filming in New Jersey was in fact ‘The Idiom’, we knew that it was in fact Catching Fire that was at the Ringwood State Park for two+ days of filming. Now, New Jersey film commissioner Steven Gorelick confirms that two of the cast were there for filming.
“They filmed scenes for the beginning of the movie in Ramapo State Forest,” said Steven Gorelick, executive director of the New Jersey Motion Picture & Television Commission, who was on set during Friday’s filming.
The movie’s stars Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth were there, according to Gorelick.
The 22-year-old Lawrence, who said Sunday at the Screen Actor’s Guild (SAG) Awards that she is battling walking pneumonia, couldn’t have enjoyed the frigid temperatures but it made for good moviemaking.
“The weather worked perfectly for them,” said Gorelick. “The water froze and there was a little snow and they got some very good footage.”
So with that being said, is this why Jennifer had walking pneumonia?

i have to wonder how the’re going to work with jen’s hair on these shots, though. it’s a lot lighter now than it was when they were filming in hawaii. but i guess with some good lighting, creative camera angles and the magic of editing, they could work with it…
I was thinking it was maybe the scene where Katniss meets Gale by the lake to give him the gloves? I hope that have that scene, because it starts to show the tension between Katniss and Gale, and how they have different opinions.

The comment about the water freezing also make me think that the lake scene was being filmed. It also seems to make a D13 shot less likely, though not impossible.
What I really find intriguing, though I guess we’ll never know, is what the plans for this scene were BEFORE the CF crew found out that the start of the X-men shoot was officially delayed? I can’t imagine the scene not being included in the original script in some form. I guess they could still have gotten a fairly convincing shot in Atlanta using fake snow, or perhaps some kind of greenscreen technique to later splice Jen and Liam into a snowy winter scene. But I am glad that the scheduling change might allow for a more realistic shot.

You make it sound like that’s a bad thing. I can’t believe I’m doing this, because I don’t even like Gale that much, but let me point out that Gale is not just some minor character who can be put on a shelf until MJ rolls around. Katniss DOES sincerely love him “in the limited way I can manage”, though we do find out she loves Peeta in a different way that DOES lead to a long-term relationship/marriage, unlike Gale. If we don’t establish the real, canonical FRIENDSHIP bond between Gale and Katniss in CF, people will really not care as much about the loss of that friendship in MJ.
Besides, if this is the lake scene, and they keep it true to the book, it will not be a “shippy scene” at all; even though Gale tells Katniss that he loves her, after he misinterprets her plan to run away as some romantic elopement, once he finds out she wants all her family/friends, including Peeta, to flee with her as well, he is not happy. This is also when Katniss lets slip to Gale that the rebellion is afoot, and Gale latches on to that, argues with Katniss, and winds up stalking off with the “I don’t want anything made in the Capitol” comment, that was NOT just about Cinna’s gloves.
From the pic we got from EW of Gale’s “arrest”, it seems pretty obvious that the whipping scene will be included. Again, this IS an important scene. And while the “pre-Reaping” scene between K and G may be “new”, they do have a conversation during the “training like Career” part of the story about what would have happened if Katniss did let Peeta die. Katniss cannot commit to anything, other than that they would still be hunting on Sundays. If that’s what this pre-Reaping scene winds up showing, that’s not a great shippy scene either.
I totally agree with you. Gale isn’t one of my favorite characters but it’s SO important for audiences that haven’t read the books to know why Katniss feels such a pull towards Gale. ESPECIALLY in Catching Fire where the feelings are the most evident. Their friendship is really important in CF and so I’m glad they’re having more scenes together. It’s sticking to the book and I’m very grateful.
i was just asking if it was another new scene between Gale and Katniss or a reshoot. I should have explained myself better. But it was late and I was in hurry. Because they were a guy who told they had to reshoot because of some technical issue. Maybe it’s the snow? That’s all . Calm down.

Some of the cast has finished filming but from what this is saying Jen and Liam still have a few scenes to shoot that they couldn’t do when they were in Atlanta or Hawaii
Maybe it’s the scene when they are by the lake where Katniss and her dad used to go.
It’s always possible they already filmed the lake scene, but when Francis got back to the editing room he didn’t like it, so called for reshoots.
I think lake scene. Maybe Katniss and Gale meeting up. Maybe the part where she is drinking tea and is super cold waiting for the sun to come up. It will be good.
Eh? I didn’t know Jen Law got pneumonia. Is it just recently? I hope that isn’t that bad. I don’t read news about cast much, but mostly read about filming progress here.

what about Jennifer’s hair color. She is not a brunette anymore since end of december I think and still have the same hair color now . Did she wear a wig for the reshoot? Like in SNL?
i was saying the same thing. if this is true then she had to be wearing a wig.
there is also temporary hair dye. washes out in a few days.
don’t worry guys, they are professionals.. it’s the job of the hair department to think about where the part in her hair was in the last shot, they will go with whatever they think is the best option to make her hair dark again. maybe even dye it permanently and dye it back after they were done lol.
Guys the”beginning of the movie” could have been also the scene where Gale kisses Katniss without warning .Remember Katniss recalls it in her talk with President Snow
There is a thing called temporary hair color, people. And to be honest, the cast member’s hair/eye color is the least of my concerns.
@Keke; so you won’t mind if Katniss is blond in mockingjay for example. As for myself, I care for continuity. If in movie one gale has dark hair and then in movie 2 his hair are light brown and in movie 3 he ends blond… Well it hurt the continuity of the movies.
She’s not going to be blonde in Mockingjay and neither is Gale. I are about continuity too but I’m not going to freak out if their hair is a little lighter than it was the first time around. People’s hair does change naturally due to sun exposure. So I just don’t understand why people are freaking out about hair color. It’s really a minimal thing in the grand scheme of things.

yes they finished the forest in D12 parts! they were my favourite especially with the friends, people who read know who i am talking about when i say friends. Also i can’t wait to see the cabin from the lake, ahhhh so exciting. I also can’t wait to see Lawrence’s directing and how the movie now is compared to Ross’ adaptation (by Lawrence and Ross i mean the directors, Francis Lawrence director of CF and Garry Ross director of HG)
