Sam Claflin “On Fire” in Teen Vogue’s March 2013 Issue
Sam Claflin will be featured in Teen Vogue’s March 2013 issue. Since the tagline for this Q&A is “Man on Fire,” hailing him an “all star tribute” and the “newest postapocalyptic stud,” it’s not a stretch to say we can expect some questions about Catching Fire!
Jennifer Lawrence will also be mentioned in this issue, as part of a “10 years of Young Hollywood” spread. Meanwhile, Sam will once again be featured, along with Liam Hemsworth, in Vanity Fair’s March 2013 Hollywood issue. You can see some MQ scans of these publications under the cut, thanks to @epnebelle via Hunger Times.

Can’t wait to read it!
Happy for all of them! But how come Josh isn’t mentioned in any of these? Poor guy always gets the shaft. Oh well, hopefully someday he’ll get the recognition he deserves.
yeah I agree I hope Josh gets the recognition he deserves too. Poor Josh
I still love him
???
Josh is the one who always gets the attention from the fandom ’cause he is playing Peeta, I actually believe its good that he is not being overexposed as he was with THG
Interesting shot of Sam up there… that looks like Finnick to me now
I really can’t wait to see Catching Fire!
Being in a magazine that haills you the ‘allstar tribute’, well, if that isnt some real life Capitol stuf.. I cant help but think that Finnick went trough this once too..
I agree–Poor Josh-although his tumbler and fandom is still going strong! I just really hate that the outside attention isnt there also1
HEY MOCKINGJAY.net–what about Josh? You have not even put any information out about his being down in New Orleans this weekend at the Celebrity Bowl!!! This has been noted on other THG sites already!
Is this a website for the entire THG cast/fans or just for the cast members who you always keep noting.
Please be fair–they are all great actors and are all integral to the story!
believe me, we’re not ignoring josh on purpose. we respect and try to be fair to all the actors and people involved in these films; it’s just that as a general rule we try not to post news that are exclusively about the actors’ personal lives and completely unrelated to the hunger games franchise.
if josh were to be featured in a magazine, in an interview or similar having to do with the hunger games, or if he were to win an award or something like that, then we would be more than happy to report it! we love josh, and think he’s a great person. personally, i wish the media would focus more on him, he deserves it.
Yes I understand the fandom loves him, and that’s great, but I think it would be better for Josh’s career, if he was also promoted outside the fandom.
All we can say it’s promotion for Josh Hutcherson and his character ” Peeta ” is seriously lacking for the debut of catching fire promotion ( even it’s very early )
Sam, Liam and Jennifer are everywhere. Josh is nowhere and he has a leading role. What’s wrong with him?
Hollywood doesn’t find him as “attractive” as the other three, so he is not worthy of promotion or a photograph.
Weird though because the papparazzi are always around when Josh is out and about–so a bit confusing about his not being “worthy of promotion”–seems like they are always trying to get snapshots of him.
When THG was first out, there were magazines focused on Josh(Teen Vogue, etc)–so is just weird that none right now. Is this something that he himself wants? Sort of staying out of the mainstream of Hollywood? He seems to enjoy doing interviews and talk shows, however not certain about the rest of it(like award show mingling).
I understand the major focus is on Jenn now as it should be for her outstanding work on Silver LInings and her winning the awards. I understand how Sam is the new guy on the movie–so he is being focused on. I guess that Liam is getting focused on because he is marrying Miley.
But I do not understand how Josh is being left out of the mix here–unless this is something that he wants at this time.
Just makes me sad because he is such a good actor and seems like a great person and he should be recognized.
Kyo-couldn’t agree more. Sort of brings up the whole “worry about Josh/Peeta” in CF again huh??
yes. If it weren’t for the paparazzi , we wouldn’t have any news about him via official promotion. Everybody seemed to be intereviewed about catching fire but him.
Well Jena Malone doesn’t have the spotlight either, but she is far from a main character and can be kept hidden for plot secret etc I can understand about them to keep Johanna under the carpet.for stricly movie reason.
But Josh? He should be interviewed. He should be on the magazine too. He is the leading man of Hunger games ( last time I checked. He is the second lead… and was introduced in the first movie. So I don’t understand. It’s like the movie returns, old Cast, of course Jennifer lawrence, Liam, are back on promotion and in the magazine… New cast too : Sam clafin . But Josh? It’s almost ” Josh Huctcherson who? Peeta? Who?
Everybody? The only people interviewed about Catching Fire so far have been the Francis Lawrence, Jennifer Lawrence and Sam Claflin, plus one quote by Nina Jacobson. And that was two interviews by Francis and Sam and one interview by Jen.
to be fair, we’ve also heard a fair bit from toby jones and jeffrey wright recently. obviously, those aren’t news coming through magazines, because teens don’t care to see jeffrey or toby in a magazine spread, but toby jones has been on the awards circle and jeffrey wright’s new movie just premiered, so they’ve been working the media.
josh doesn’t have any projects coming out right now– which is probably why he hasn’t been spotlighted by the media in a while. i’m sure once november approaches and lionsgate begins actively promoting CF, he’ll be all up for the media circuit. he and jennifer are media gold, so they’re not going to pass up that opportunity.
We will see that in May, when Epic will be released. He is the leading male voice after all.
Carla-You are probably right with this–(we hope)–
Think that we all agree with you that Jenn and Josh together are golden–and maybe just want to get them together in interviews now since it has been too long.
(Also can not wait to get the guys together for interviews-Josh/Liam and now Sam–should be funny.)
You don’t think that who Vanity Fair chooses to do put pictures of n their magazine is a sign of screentime or character development in the upcoming movie that none of them have seen, do you?
No it’s a sign of who they think is hotter and more successful, and that will bring more readers. It’s a sign of popularity. Nothing with screentime. Just popularity.
What up with the picture of Vanessa Hudgens?
What picture?Did I miss something?
sam is with her in the picture, hence why we posted it.
Don’t you find it weird that every time they came up with something about Sam, we ended up with worrying for our Josh/Peeta?
I personally think that there is still so long time for CF. We will have our “share” in Josh/Peeta what will be just enoug to keep the buzz but not to spoil the film.:)
Probably they keep him in the background for purpose.
Keyword : patience
I don’t worry if they are promoting Sam, even Lian , hell every other actor who are working for the franchise. I ‘m worry because Josh is left out. I think they are promoting Sam because , fan base is not THAT happy about him. Ok fine, problem, to call him “Man of fire ” Sound probably for non book reader ” Oh the new leading male role” he goes with the Girl of fire. Maybe a new love triangle with The hot Liam ( Gale ).
They may wonder why Peeta is back in the movie at all when they ‘ll see the movie and be upset the useless sick puppy in love is still there bugging the ” main characters ” who had been promoted.
it’s an exageration of course. But since how much it is important that Peeta ‘s character is correctely shown in this movie. I think we are legitimate to worry because it’s our last chance to show Peeta the way he really is.
Am I so ignorant about how media and Hollywood work, or do Vanity Fair editors really ask Lionsgate who out of their stars they should put in their “Young Hollywood” issues, as the comments here seem to imply? I would assume that this is something that the magazine editors decide for themselves.
i agree. who EW/teen vogue/vanity fair/any magazine in the world chooses to have in their interviews, spreads or photoshoots doesn’t really have anything to do with who lionsgate wants or doesn’t want to promote. magazines promote whoever they think will sell, and that’s pretty much it.
like I said above, magazine like vogue, vanity fair etc promotes only the actor’s that are trendy , hot, sexy, successful, promising and have popularity and probably what will bring a lot of readers.
It has nothing to do with liongates. It’s just oh a new movie, let’s see who staring ? And they choose who they think that will make sell their magazine based on this criteria.
They also are the ones telling us ” who is hot , who is that great ” and then brought a strange mix and confusing sensation to the point people thinks “, they are the new stars of this movie, the news leading important characters
the one that count. But it’s just a superficial pick . But isn’t it how it’s works. If you are not on theses magazines, then you are expendable.
I’m not saying that there is nothing to worry about. I’m just saying that there is nothing to worry about at that early stage of promotion. Josh/Peeta is my personnal favorite as well and I’ll be really worried around May and June if we didn’t get some convincing news, interview, something.
Or maybe that is their intention to keep us in doubt.
Wich works very well.:)
I never though that lionsgate had anything to do with it, but it seemed like Vanity Fair, and other magazines, were picking out Catching Fire stars to put in their magazines, and it just made me a little sad that they wouldn’t include Josh, because he is such a main character. But I don’t know their reasoning behind it, so I will just let it go.
Not much reason for Josh to be doing interviews now. He doesn’t have any films to promote, so there’s the problem of magazines and whatnot not actually having any questions to ask.
They can’t ask him to elaborate on his character because the first film has already established who Peeta is. They could ask him where his character is going in the story but that’d only be one question and it might give spoilers. Sam, on the other hand, is the new kid on the block so they have plenty of questions to hammer him with.
I’m sure Josh will be making the rounds on the media circuit this summer anyway.
To all-
Agree with you all on most points — As Kyo said we will hopefully see more of Josh in Epic interviews as it comes out in May. Maybe the problem is what some of you brought up—right now Josh is working on preproduction for the movie with Benicio(is this film still a go/Paradise Lost???) and Epic does not come out until Spring.
Andrea—your point about him interviewing now gave me a thought–They are probably threatening Josh not to speak with any interviewers regarding CF right now—he sometimes gets overexcited and gives too much information! Ha!
As for Vanity Fair-agree with you–the magazines choose who is on their covers-
Sam is in the mag as he should be at this time—Remember it was Josh/Jenn and Liam who were in it before HG. Sam being the new character (and alot of people love the character of Finnick-including me) –he is getting coverage that the others received when they began in the franchise.
Liam might be getting some coverage in Vanity Fair at this time because I do believe he has another movie coming out this year.
And Jenn-well she is on every cover of every magazine because she is awesome.
Not to belabor this point–I guess alot of the fans just would like to see the interviews like they had in HG with the entire cast–Will likely not happen the same way as with HG because there is no need for such a buildup–After the success of HG, Catching Fire will likely break even more records—alot of people are waiting for it!
Well I’m just happy for Sam. This is his first really good role in a Hollywood film; his other roles (POTC and SWATH) were thankless, marginalized and short-changed – probably why he’s so excited about Catching Fire.
But does his hair look dark in the top picture or is it just a bad scan? Maybe it was taken before he filmed Catching Fire, since it’s still light in the pics I’ve seen from just a few days ago at the InStyle party.
And in the picture of him with Max Irons you can see his cast from when he broke his hand on set.
Didn’t mean to make that sound like I was just happy for Sam and no one else. Haha. They’re all deserving. And I’m sure Josh will get a lot of exposure closer to the movie’s release.
Well, it seems this discussion has been quite reasonable so far. (Maybe because I stayed out of it until now?
)
Anyway, I agree with those who have acknowledged the difference between articles appearing in independent magazines on who to interview, and official LG promotional material. I guess the EW article had a more “official” feel because it was the first major article, and was promoted as a “Catching Fire” special. However, this Teen Vogue article really seems to be focused on “Sam Claflin the actor”, not “Finnick the movie character”.
What I also want to point out, is the Vogue and Vanity Fair magazines are not really “magazines that cover the movie/entertainment industry” the way EW is. They are more “fashion magazines about beautiful people”, though obviously, many such beautiful people happen to be actors. While it is unfortunate that Josh Hutcherson is not considered fashion-magazine material, that doesn’t mean he’s not considered a good actor. All that being said, I actually do hope we’ll get some material on Josh soon. Not because I worry about his role as Peeta, but because Josh says really funny, interesting things during his interviews, much like Jen does.
