Lionsgate Stock Hits High After Jennifer Lawrence’s Oscar Win
Guess Michael Burns was right to call Jennifer Lawrence the “Goddess of Lionsgate”! The Hollywood Reporter revealed that stocks for Lionsgate on the New York Stock Exchange jumped to a 52-week high immediately following Jen’s Academy Award win on Sunday.
This is definitely a sign that investors are expecting Catching Fire to be both a quality product and a massive blockbuster. THR quotes a stock analyst who mentioned that, while the Hunger Games sequel is already set up for success even without Jennifer’s recent win, this increase says a lot of Lionsgate’s ability to spot and support up-and-coming talent.
We can only hope this means great things for the franchise!

I quite enjoy the news about Jennifer Lawrence, even if some of it may not be as relevant to the Hunger Games movies as others. She is the protagonist of our beloved trilogy, so of course the majority of posts around awards season (and during little to no promotion of the Catching Fire movie… yet) will be about her, especially if she wins the Oscar for Best Actress at 22 years old. Plus, how many fan sites can say their book-to-movie adaptation has an Academy Awards winner playing the lead character?
Well, this news is actually Hunger Games related, since it’s about how Jen’s Oscar win affected Lionsgate stocks, which is the studio behind THG of course, so I don’t really see the problem. And the sheer fact itself that she won an Oscar is related to THG, I mean, as the stock market change shows, this obviously raises the franchise’s profile as well.
And whether you like it or not, Jennifer is the face of this franchise, she became inseparable from it. It’s natural anyway that a fansite follows the cast members’ career and life outside of the main franchise.

There was also a photo of Josh smoking what looked to be a joint also but since he didn’t win an Oscar 4 days ago, no one is making much mention of it! It’s not fake. Pretty much everyone smokes marijuana at one point in his/her life. It’s really not that bad unless you become dependent on it. Cigarettes are way worse.
I agree. It’s a little troubling to me, as I have a middle-schooler that looks up to Jen, and I sure wouldn’t want her smoking pot. And, it’s still illegal in most places, whereas Jen can legally drink all the Bud she wants. That said, pot probably isn’t as bad for your health as alcohol and, personally, I’m in favor of legalizing and taxing it. Many societal advantages to that. For right now, assuming the shot is real — and many different camera angles have been posted online, so it probably IS real — let it be another lesson in discretion for her. The papparazi knows no limits.

My opinion of her went up a notch after seeing her smoke a joint, reinforced my perception that she’s a normal person. Kudos to her, don’t let the bastards grind you down!

When she was on a talk show recently, she talked about how her family are huge Budweiser fans. Is that awful too?
If she was 16, I’d understand, but she’s 22 years old. And all things considered, this is mild compared to seeing your idol with a bong (Miley) or seeing her naked crotch (Britney) or seeing her looking like a legit coke addict (Lindsay).
I’m dont mean to talk bad about Jen but she’s starting to get a little annoying …..
It’s difficult for an actor to be a role model (if they want to be) since they have paparazzi following them everywhere. Those piranhas borderline violate their privacy, hiding behind bushes and trash cans to get unflattering shots of people, whether it be picking their noses or punching someone in the face.
Secondly, this is the internet, so you have to take everything at face value, especially photos and videos that may (or may not) have been edited to convey an entirely different situation. Yes, I totally believe an eagle plucked a baby off the ground and flew away with him/her in that one viral YouTube video without questioning its legitimacy whatsoever. How2commonsense.
Lastly, if you don’t like all the news about Jennifer Lawrence on this site, then just skip over them or look for a HG fan site that doesn’t post as much stuff about her, which would be difficult to find given that she is playing the main heroine. I guess you’re one of those people that Jen mentioned, being annoyed with her face appearing everywhere and whatnot.

I wouldn’t consider Jen a role model anyway. She’s talented and funny as hell but has a pottymouth even worse than mine.
She’s been pretty open about her drinking habits so the smoking thing is not terriby shocking.
It bothers me more in Josh’s case – like when he was snapped last year carrying a just-purchased bottle of top-shelf liquor – because he’s underage. But he’s grown up in the industry, so it’s not really surprising in his case either.
Jennifer has been living in Hollywood and been involved in the film/television industry since she was 15. While it doesn’t excuse smoking marijuana, it should not come as a shock that she does – it is nearly ubiquitous behavior in the circles in which she lives. When talking about a role model she never claimed that she would be an angel – she just said she would try not to behave badly in public. And this was not public but her hotel room. How creepy is it to aim a telephoto lens into a young woman’s bedroom? And yet it is Jennifer who is apparently taking the heat not the creep who invaded her privacy.
Poor Jennifer – they are already starting to tear her apart for our amusement. We do that to our young actresses (and to a lesser extent our actors). It reminds me a little bit of a book I once read.

I completally understand if they are smoking, they are young and so on…, but it still disappoints me. Can’t help it! Especially Josh, who really is obsessed with sports( never ever pictured him with a cigarette). I can’t put it in words in a way that mad fans do not feel offended.
I still love both. That is why I constantly searching for news about them, and I’m still big fan of HG but they lost a couple of points on my personnal “respect list”.

Sadly, the movie didn’t get a nomination, despite the fields for Best movie and Best SF movie being ridiculously weak (Skyfall, The Dark Knight Rises and The Hobbit for Best movie? Prometheus for best SF?!). It looks like they just went with franchise movies popular in UK, THG still isn’t that big over there, I guess.

i think it’s a cultural thing. I’ m fron another country than USA, where smoking weed, is illegal and of course I’m shocked to see them smoke, they are so young. I’m not surprised about jennifer Lawrence; I expected that from her. I’m very disappointed with Josh. He is so young and he seems so involve with sports etc. Smoking is just bad whatever it is.

it’s really not an issue of culture as it is of misinformation. cannabis IS illegal in most US states– certainly is in hawaii– just as it is in most of the rest of the world. i come from a country that (on paper, at least) is very hard on drugs, and i don’t and have never used any myself, but that doesn’t mean that anyone i know who smokes a joint is an automatic disappointment. i’m informed about the effects of weed so i can make informed decisions about those who use it.
[by the way, smoking cannabis is not really comparable to, say, tobacco in terms of health; it would not affect a person's performance in sports the way regular cigarettes would... at least not physically. just because you smoke it doesn't mean it's going to kill your lungs or your athletic abilities.]
now, everybody can have their own opinion on whether or not marijuana should be legal, and whether or not it’s a gateway drug or whatever. everybody is entitled to his or her own opinion and choices. but the fact remains, just because it MIGHT lead a person to a point when it’s “not occasional” anymore, that doesn’t mean it WILL. we need to stop demonizing people before they actually do anything wrong.
i don’t think anyone means to say it’s “cool” to smoke pot, and i certainly wouldn’t tell kids anything of the sort, but let’s not make it seem like josh & jen are ruining their lives with each puff they take. it doesn’t work like that. they’re adults, it’s their life, and they can handle the consequences. some disappointment i can understand, especially from the younger side of the fandom and people who really look up to them, but it’s not like that automatically erases all the good things we’ve praised them for in the past.

both are dangerous. Both have consequencies. Weed is not just only weed, it contains as much as toxic products than the cigarette and there are not filter so it’s even more dangerous if you look at it that way.
Weed provokes brain damage, lazyness, memory lost, trouble to concentrate etc.

I’m stunned that people thinks, that smoking weed is safer or purer ( Weed is a businnes folk. They don’t sell you a pure marijuana without others things inside it ( just like cigarette ) and unlike cigarette weed have no filter.
So the cigarette kills you in a long term . The weed kills your brain in a short term ( even more dramatical when young people , teens smoke ).

There has been an overabundance of Jennifer news lately because of Silver Linings Playbook and it’s going to be reported here because she’s still a HG cast member.
As for people being disappointed about the pictures, the job of celebrities is to entertain you, not to be perfect, and certainly not to be role models. That’s the kind of thing your parents, astronauts, teachers, doctors, firefighters, humanitarians, so on are for. So for anyone who says “oh, I’m so disappointed in actress/singer/athlete so-and-so for doing such-and-such, they’re such a bad role model”, well, that’s not their job so don’t look to them to do it. Just my .02.
Im from Amsterdam, Ive never smoked pot and am a little dissapointed. But hey,not that shocked. And it IS pretty creepy to peep into someones hotel room!
Neither have I, though I am a big supporter of medical marijuana use especially for chemo patients. But I don’t think this is the type of thing to get disappointed over. Underneath the glitz and the glamor, celebrities are not perfect. They’re just regular people like everyone else so no one should be surprised when they act like regular people. They’re not saints.
The fact that the paps took such close up shots in her actual hotel room is extremely creepy to me too. Her stock has risen in Hollywood with her Oscar win, so now she’s going to be under a greater microscope than just having The Hunger Games be so successful. Good and bad to that kind of success. But what’s surprising to me is the mainstream US media has made the alleged activities such a nonfactor in any of the coverage I’ve seen. This story is not going to hurt her career or the franchise for that matter. And normally this would be something the media would love to pounce on.
this is what the paps are trying to do, they are trying to make us dislike them as best as they can and its not like they were smoking in public or in front of Willow or something like that, they were doing it in there privacy. it could be photoshopped, Josh’s looks more likely to be and Jen’s can also be, but guys who cares if they do, they could have been caught doing something more worse and 96% of americans do weed so is it such a shock that they do it. and from what Ive read up in the comments it seems that it’s fine if jennifer does it but when josh does it, its a dissapointment? so jennifer is albe to do it but not josh? just sayin. i will not let the paps get to me, and guess what paps you just made me love josh and jen way more, I will not fall into your trap paps and no one is complaing that the paps are kinda stocking them……i’m saying its okay to do weed.
