And to top off a day with all our favorite Hunger Games boys… here’s the man himself: District Four Victor, Finnick Odair! What do you think of this portrait?

I thought the exact same thing when I saw it. The outfits a little weird but its Finnick so I’m glad they have a picture of him

D4 is the fishing district…so my guess is either a)this is hip in D4 or b)this is the way the Capital views how people in D4 dress..

Don’t like the costume, but he’s easily handsome enough for Finnick.
I can’t say I’m a fan of his outfit, but everything else is very Finnick.
Now after looking up the word eminence, I’d say Snow, but adored by all doesn’t really fit him, so my second guess would be Plutarch.

well, snow would WANT us to think he’s adored by all, wouldn’t he? remember these portraits are coming from “the capitol” so they’re all basically snow propaganda.
True, hadn’t thought of that. Shown hatred against him doesn’t exactly go over well.

Yeah, I looked up the definition first too and immediately thought Snow. He’s not actually “Adored By All” but all the people publicly have to adore him or face death. So I think it could be President Snow.
There could be a chance that it will be Plutarch. The Gamemakers could be adored, too, I guess. We’ll just have to wait and see….SOOO EXCITED!!!
Well, the term “His Eminence” is usually used to refer to Cardinals of the Catholic Church, and Cardinals are meant to be “Princes of the Church”, but not the head of it (that would obviously be the Pope, who is addressed as “His Holiness”). But I guess the people at LG figured, there is no sitting Pope right now, and the Cardinals are the highest rank in the Church right now? As for “Adored By All”, I agree that this is what Snow WANTS us to think. Guess we’re back into Full Capitol Mode!
I know its probably Snow, but I want it to be Plutarch so the President is kept for last. That makes a little more sense to me if they would do it in that order. (Which would also mean that Enobaria, Wiress, mags, Gloss, Chasmere and any other tribute wouldn’t get a poster)
“his eminence” is not exclusive to cardinals… i doubt lionsgate would intend it to be a religious reference, pope or not. the phrase was historically used for nobility, and i’ve heard royalty be referred to that way sometimes, particularly when “majesty” gets too repetitive. also, people who are the highest-ranked experts in their field get referred to as “an eminence” sometimes.
For some reason, I imagined Finnick would pose something like Peeta. LOL His pose looks stiff. Idk, I felt like he could have done a very laid-back kinda pose.

I like the pirate costume. It’s the kind of thing the Capitol would put him in, when they decide to do something other than flaunt his body.

I actually expected Finnick to be wearing something a lot more trashier in a Capitol Portrait, but I do like the pirate-inspired outfit as well, Also, his pants DO resemble “harem pants”, and you could argue that Finnick and some other Tributes were the equivalent of harem girls for many higher-ups in the Capitol.
He looks like Jasper from Twilight…btw I work at Starbucks and this week we are serving “Tribute” blend. It was a small joy to say the least.

my first reaction was “what the HECK is he wearing?!”, but it’s started to grow on me. i mean, can you not see little-boy!finnick wanting to be a pirate when he grew up? i bet he went up to the capitol stylist for this shoot and just went: “you know, i have a GREAT idea… what if i dressed like a PIRATE?”
and i gotta give it to him, he does rock the pirate look.
i think there’s also more symbolism hidden in this one, if you look hard for it. the kind of symbolism that will give you feels. the details in this one have by far made me the saddest. aw, finnick.

He’s a SELKIE!
I think Carla is referring to the Selkie imagery. I think Trish wanted to evoke not just the male Selkie myths, which basically just involve them seducing human women, but the female Selkie myths as well. Most of those myths are about human men capturing them by stealing and hiding their seal-skins, preventing them from returning to sea, and forcing them into marriage. The stories usually end with the selkie woman finding their seal-skins, and promptly putting it on and going back to sea, “abandoning” the human husband.
The legends made this seem almost romantic, but when you really think about it, this is actually about kidnapping and rape, and the selkie woman had every right to escape from her captor. In many of the legends the selkie woman actually has a selkie mate “back home” at sea, who she has been torn away from because of the human’s selfishness. Doesn’t this sound very close to the situation with the Capitol women, Finnick, and Annie?
The selkie legends also usually state that the kidnapped selkie woman LOOKS happy, and appears on the surface to be a model wife, but is still always yearning to return to sea. The look on Finnick’s face could definitely be interpreted as a wistful, “I will play my part in the Capitol, but I’ll always be yearning for my true home and love”.

‘The more I study this costume the more amazed I am by it. The shirt does give it a pirate feel. However what gets me is his skirt/pants. Take a look at the sealskin pattern. He’s shedding his sealskin. They made him into a Selkie! By legend, male Selkies are extremely seductive to human females.’
Someone mentioned this on Tumblr and it I feel like this was extremely accurate!
Does anyone know who is going to play Annie?? Is she even going to be in the movie??

I don’t necessarily like the outfit itself, but all I wanted to say that the way I see it the outfits portrayed in the portraits of the tributes seem to indicate that they will be their interview costumes (Katniss’ wedding dress, Peeta’s suit, etc.). If that is the case, then these are the stylist’s choices of what they would wear. This is a Capitol portrait, and their vision of what he should wear, not what Finnick would necessarily wear on a normal basis. Therefore, I have absolutely no problem with the outfit, and minus that think Sam himself looks great. : )

I think the idea of the selkie legend reference is awesome !!!! If they really meanted to indicate this they are freaking geniuses! Finnick as a stolen merman from his beloved mermaid by the human Capitol ladies??? Brilliant!!!

OMG, I liked the Finnick I pictured in the book a million times better, but oh well, he’s ok. Minus the fact he should be wearing a net.
He’s damn good looking. I am very happy with the casting of Sam Claflin!
