Hold on to your seats, ladies and gents, because the eighth Capitol Portrait has just been released and it features none other than one of the Victors of the 74th annual Hunger Games: the boy with the bread himself, Peeta Mellark! I know many of us have been eagerly anticipating this one, so what do you think?
The Capitol Couture countdown now announces that the next portrait will be revealed in just THREE hours (1 pm PST)! In the meantime, hang on tight, we’ll update this post with the next hint as soon as it’s posted!

Yeah, I agree. I wouldn’t have thought Gale would be included since it’s Capitol Portraits, but I was hoping for one of him anyway.

It’s been suggested that the gold thing in his pocket is a flask or a pocket handkerchief, but I don’t buy either option. There’s some kind of knob topping it off. I just can’t place it, and it’s going to drive me crazy until we know! This portrait and Johanna’s are definitely my favorites.

Some people are stating that it is a box with an engagement ring but I don’t see it–do you? I think it looks like some sort of flask but can not for the life of me understand why–unless he is keeping a supply for Haymitch since he volunteered to be a tribute in his place???
It must be the locket.
thats what I thought it was the locket he gives to Katniss by the ocean at night in Catching Fire
i heard it mentioned somewhere that it might be haymitch’s flask, like haymitch gave it to him as a “sign” of their pact that haymitch would do everything to get katniss out.
i’m not quite sure if it’s a flask, though. i’d love to see it in some other context.

Admin-Is Mockingjay.net going to release this out to Facebook users? Peeta’s portrait is the only one not introduced on Facebook–Beetee/Johanna are there as is Gale and Finnick’s empty chair. I know that you guys have gone down with technical issues but are you not allowed to send out his portrait due to an exclusivity deal someone made with Perez Hilton for Peeta’s portrait? (Hence the purple Perez Hilton emblem might mean that only he can have the right to this portrait). What is up?

I don’t really think so, I mean every portrait is used on every site right now and they are all over Tumblr. I think they release the portraits on other sites to engage different fans in the whole marketing for CF (from the Gossipers of PerezHilton, to the more serious of the HuffingtonPost).
And don’t forget that having the portraits all over the internet is marketing for Lionsgate, so I don’t think they’ll mind that other sites put them on too. Just like with the last movie, they use every single part of social media, twitter, facebook, tumblr, Instagram, that way everyone will see it, which is why every single Capitol site has technical difficulties because of the huge amount of fans desperately looking for the posters xD

I saw it on Facebook, but I’m wondering if a lot of people didn’t get to see it, because Gale’s portrait has 18000 likes but peeta’s has only 7000? That doesn’t make sense to me, unless people just don’t like peeta as much as I thought.
it might just be the time of release. peeta’s was earlier, many people were at work or in school. we can’t really control the internet or people’s schedules.
I love it this one has to be my favorite and he’s holding a rose I suspect that the roses are gonna be and have a huge meaning in this movie or it could be that snow loves roses and his favorite are white or maybe we might see the roses a lot around the victory tour because katniss says they see some and that’s why she freaks when she sees that snow had left them there for her in MJ. It’s definitely a flask. I love the golden accents to his clothes…the bracelets, the colar and the flask.
The flask is kinda ironic since (*MINOR SPOILER ALERT*) Peeta, uh, “helped” Haymitch get sober to prepare for the Quarter Quell…just saying…
I looked at the pic you linked, and I actually think it looks more like a gold-colored handkerchief, rolled up. A handkerchief would certainly be the most conventional thing for someone to put in a suit jacket pocket. However, I think it is supposed to resemble a liquor flask, as foreshadowing that Peeta will take Haymitch’s flask away from him during CF. It also could be hinting at the spile that will play a part in the Quell. And (though part of this is just me stubbornly clinging to an earlier theory), I still think the resemblance from a distance to that square locket that we saw in the earlier leaked set photos, is no accident, either.
I also came across a brilliant theory on another site, that the bracelets Peeta is wearing, are meant to foreshadow the “bracelets” he will be wearing in Mockingjay! And that the position of the bracelets and his hands in relation to the chair, is meant to look like he could be handcuffed to the chair, and trying to get up and break free of it. And doesn’t that white suit look like a straitjacket, the kind they used in the past to restrain mental patients?
Which COULD mean…if it IS a flask, it is supposed to be filled, not with liquor, but with tracker jacker venom. Now, while in the books, the venom was injected, I can easily see the movie changing that, and showing Peeta being forced to drink the venom instead, because I have NEVER seen IV drug use (even forced or coerced use) depicted in a PG-13 movie. (As for the morphlings, even in book canon, we know the drug is available in pill form, and I think that if they are shown taking morphling, it will be the pills, not the injected form.)
Anyway…even if you take the foreshadowing away, this is my favorite portrait. I love Josh’s expression in this, I think it conveys perfectly the mixture of sadness and determination Peeta shows in CF. (Okay, the Johanna portrait also came close, but Peeta’s my favorite character, so he wins, sorry Jena!)

@AnvilGate – I love you for this. That tumblr shot is far more detailed and better exposed than the full shot above, and I have truly never seen Josh look more striking than he does there. I’m just going to say it – he is legit gorgeous.
Wow, the clarity of that is amazing! You can see the texture of his sweater and all the detailed seaming of the jacket, but I’m, actually, less sure it’s a flask or bottle now. It looks like something rolled up, whether papers or just decorative accent or whatever. Definitely gorgeous, though!
Can we please get a Peeta Picture without the ugly logo at the bottom?! Why do all the other ones not have it! It is so distracting and gross! I love this pic but NOT the logo
I don’t believe that its a gold handkerchief in the fact that it is definitely metallic and not cloth (and last I checked no fabric reflects the same as any metal). I also don’t think its a flask either. The dimensions aren’t quite right in regards to what would be part you drink from. The sides aren’t even, but since its also in a partial shadow from his jacket’s lappel its hard to tell. Looking carefully at the picture provided in the link above (zoomed in to an extreme) it more closely resembles that of a small, thin sheet of metal that has been shaped. What the purpose of that is, we fans may never know…
I love that portrait. With that two little pointed collar, it definitely looks like a groom suit. And It’s definitely imaginable how that tight “pants ripped right down the crotch”. So I can imagine him wearing that suit at the proposal. It could be a a gold handkerchief in his pocket that makes sense but if you zoom on that picture it looks metallic, like a really wide rolled up bracelet. I know it doesn’t make any sense only If they make him propose with a bracelet instead of a ring. But why would they do that? I’m raelly eager to know what it is!!!

my favorites portrait so far ( along with Johanna ) They both brought their character on their portrait and giving something more to us , than the others. Josh is gorgeous. I mean generally he is damn cute , but in this pictures , he is charismatic, sexy, steady, sad and gorgeous. WOW;

There is a new Interview with Trish Summerville in THR. She talks about some of the designs for CF and these pics. This suit is by Juun J, and if you image search the designer, you see that several designs from last year sport gold wrist cuffs and rolled, metallic pocket accessories. So, no flask here, I think — mainly ornamental!

Kaleany-you are correct-someone posted the designers summer line on Tumblr this morning and it included gold cuffs and breast pocket “handkerchief”.
Not something I see men wearing everyday but really looks fabulous with Peeta’s outfit. The whole look is very Capitol.

I really like him, but… I just thought they could have been a little more creative with Peeta.
Also I don’t like that Perez Hilton got his name in the corner when the other characters didn’t. (I know that’s really minor but oh well)
I adore Peeta, his expression thoughtful like I’ve always imagined him in the books… but I thought he could be wearing something that… symbolizes something?
But apart from that, Johanna and Katniss have been very good and their expressions just like you would imagine them in the books. The outfits have been brilliant.
Do they really expect us to wait till NOVEMBER 22ND?? Come on! (I swear I will literally kill myself till then)
