Katniss Wedding Dress Revealed

With all the costume reveals this week via the Capitol Portraits, The Hollywood Reporter got a chance to talk with Catching Fire costume designer Trish Summerville, who revealed that the dress in the Capitol Portrait of Katniss is, indeed, her wedding dress.

“Katniss’ white gown is by a designer named Tex Saverio in Jakarta. He is amazing! I found his designs quite some time ago and saved his information for a perfectly fitting project, then came Catching Fire – perfect!” she said….

“We did several Skype calls with sketches to work together in designing the wedding dress. I had seen a dress he designed with a similar metal bodice, and I wanted to incorporate it into our wedding-dress design,” Summerville adds.

She also pointed out the bodice, a Swarovski-crystal-clad “organza corset under a metal cage.” The metal pieces rising up are meant to signify fire and flames, while layers of laser-cut feathers at the waist and shoulder tie in the film’s “Mockingjay” concept.

The skirt also has numerous layers of organza and chiffon ruffles giving it grandness but still making it seem airy and fluid for movement. As Summerville explains, “This is very important for the twirling/ spinning Katniss does onstage, per Caesar Flickerman’s request.”

Trish Summerville also spoke about Effie and Peeta’s outfits.

Summerville confirms that Effie Trinket’s red ruffled poster dress and matching shoes are indeed from the house of Alexander McQueen, as THR had reported. But she also reveals that Peeta’s suit is by a Korean designer that she is “obsessed with” called Juunj. “He is unbelievably talented,” she writes. “And Peeta’s boots are by Rick Owens.

I must admit, I am SHOCKED that they would reveal Katniss’ wedding dress eight months before the movie. I’m also disappointed that, while the dress is pretty breathtaking, it looks absolutely nothing like the dress described in the book.

What are your thoughts on this being Katniss’ wedding dress? And does this also mean that the other Victors are wearing their interview outfits in the portraits as well?

I’ll echo your disappointment. I thought those metal pieces were meant to be MJ wings, which was weird enough (if eye-catching). But if they’re a flame reference, I don’t get that. The flame dress was in the first book, not CF. And there is indeed something oddly anticlimactic about revealing such a significant costume so early.

The larger issue that bothers me is that we’ve all been trying to figure out if these shots were canon or just LG promo because there are some inconsistencies with story and characters (I don’t buy Finnick as a pirate, regardless of what others say). If this one’s canon after all, I’m kind of thinking the other ones are meant to be canon too, which…means they’re messing up the canon.

C’mon, I know y’all wanna tell me why I’m wrong on this. Have at it! ;)

    •

apart from gale, which we all know is an issue, what other aspects make you worry about the canonicity of these portraits? i’m curious.

      •
        SPM

The things I listed above with this dress and Finnick’s pirate outfit (yeah…no). I get that it’s a seafaring reference from D4 but it’s just so far from what I imagined Finnick would ever wear, and seems to actively work against that whole sexy swagger thing he’s meant to have going on. (Sam himself looks great, though.) There may be something else I’m forgetting.

I asked you on the Finnick thread what symbolism you noticed in his costume, as I looked but couldn’t see it. I’m open to persuasion, if you want to share. :)

        •
          Ivana

I don’t see how a pirate costume would go AGAINST the sexy swagger persona? And it’s irrelevant what any of them would normally wear if they had a choice, the tributes are all wearing what their stylists have chosen for them.

          •
            SPM

            Right on cue…

Anyway, that’s one of the unsexiest pirate costumes I’ve ever seen, which is why I don’t think the stylists would’ve chosen it.

And yeah, I actually do know who makes Capitol costuming decisions, but thanks anyway for that.

why has gale got a flower?!?!?!?!?!!? and peeta looks like a div

      baby-boi

I disagree….the only negative thing I have seen about the outfits so far is that Kat’s wedding dress looks too good. In the book it gives you the impression that the dress is just a simple wedding dress….but then again, this is the Capital….this could be viewed as a simple dress…..

As far as Finnick goes, this is probably how people dress in D4…

      KATNISS ALLTHEWAY

I wanted Katniss’s dress to be a big surprise – it was one of the things i was looking forward to the most because of the suspense! I thought it would be a bit more like the book and princessy, rather than a VERY capital design like that as well, bit too much like the effie’s dress really. And as for finnicks outift, I imagined him with that kind of loose shirt but the trousers really surprised me! So baggy, made him look like Aladin a little, so that was a bit disappointing, surely they wanted finnick to look more sexy? (i know sam claflin is already sexy himself but the outfit dosent help)

      •
        Luna

Maybe they’ll keep the black (burned) one for the big surprise?

    •
      msrissa

I am pretty sure that the Kat’s dress is not the one shown. I have seen some other photos that are much more like the books description ( plus part of its burning away and you can see the mockingjay part of the dress ). This dress is beautiful ,but its too busy and in the book it wasn’t symbolic till she spun and it turned into the mockingjay dress.

    •
      Lizz

what if Katniss’s weddingdress is just 1 of THE weddingdresses, in the book she has to try on more dresses right? those are all Katniss’s weddingdresses but she will wear only 1 to the interview and who says that it is this one!

  2.
    JHutch is amazing

i think that it is amazing and disagree the dress is lovely

    •
      SPM

Yes, it is, but that wasn’t the question. I like it very much on its artistic merits – but not so much as it’s meant to relate to the character and book themes.

I figured out something else that’s bugging me about the dress – it looks too much like Effie’s red McQueen (which was achingly perfect for her character). I wanted to see more differentiation between the characters’ costumes.

      •
        windsounds

I agree, I thought it looked too much like Effie’s dress.

      •
        Ivana

I don’t think it looks anything like Effie’s dress.

  3.

so the metal thingie looks like a mockingjay but it’s instead inspired by flames… hmmm. i mean, i do like the dress, but in my head i had pictured something more obvious. then again, i don’t really have a head for fashion, so maybe that’s just me. it’s like staring at an abstract painting– i can appreciate that it’s gorgeous, but i don’t necessarily get the meaning until someone points it out.

i’m also very surprised (and somewhat disappointed) that they chose to reveal the wedding dress this early. but i guess they probably think the big reveal is not the dress itself, but what happens to it. *shrug*

and this article also made me laugh when i was not supposed to… now i have a name to pin the blame on for peeta’s boots. :D

    •
      SPM

Ha ha, the boots are the worst. I said somewhere else that they look to me like Uggs, which just pulls me right out of the moment. He looks so smashing in every other respect – this pic even shows off his lovely changeable eye color. For pity’s sake, give the boy some decent shoes!

      •
        Hannah

Really he should have like some kind of black boots on. I hate his boots.

        •

i don’t mind the color so much as the model. if they had been white versions of, say, gale or cinna’s boots in their portraits, it would’ve been fine. but these ugg-like things? very non-wedding.

guess they were expecting us to just look from his knees and up. i know i’m tempted. ;)

          •
            Ivana

We don’t know what people in who-knows-which century Panem wear at weddings.

      •

i’ve been calling them UGGly boots ever since i first saw the portrait. i’ve also heard people refer to them as moon boots, which is also a shockingly accurate nickname, or at least i think so. :D

Moon boots…I knew it. THAT’S what his shoes reminded me of!

In the book the engagement/wedding is a nonevent its all happens on one page.Josh /AKA peeta did interview a few weeks ago and he said that engagment was going done in a moive montage way were there muisc playing and you cant hear anything so its a nonevent in the moive—
      real-not real -

    Kaleiney

Initially, I just assumed these were for promotional purposes only, and while they might reflect the characters’ styles and arcs, they weren’t actual movie outfits. While it does seem odd to reveal so many visual details about such a crucial scene, I’m just glad we’ve only seen the “before” aspect! It’s giving rather a lot away, though.

Is it confirmed that these are indeed the official character posters that will be displayed in theaters?

    •
      SPM

I hope not; I don’t think it would be a very good marketing strategy. They have meaning to us, but I feel like non-trilogy readers would look at those pics and go “WTH??”

      •
        Kaleiney

I assumed this was just oline promotion for the diehard fans, but I wondered, because a lot of people are comparing them to the profile shots that were used to promote the first film.

When I first saw the boots, they reminded me of Moon Boots for snow! But I weirdly don’t hate them. They’re sort of futuristic, in keeping with the Star Wars look they seem to be going for with Peeta. Anything too delicate and he’d look ready for Downton Abbey! (Which I adore by the way!) Juun J shows similar jackets with capris and cropped pants. So glad they didn’t go in that direction!

        •
          SPM

Oh, Lord. Cropped pants tend to stumpify folks, which means Hutch is exactly the last person in the world who should wear them. Disaster averted. ;)

(Love ya, Hutch! Ain’t mad at ya, I promise!)

        •
          Satsuma

Okay, the Downton Abbey quote makes me want to ask: did anyone else think Josh looked a little like Dan Stevens in his portrait? (Dan Stevens is the actor who played Matthew Crawley). Something about his slicked-back blonde hair and facial expression. Or, I may just be mixing up fandoms in my head…

          •
            SPM

No, but I never considered Stevens to be handsome whereas I do consider Josh to be so in his CF pic. It wouldn’t occur to me to make that connection.

          •
            Kaleiney

I wasn’t really thinking specifically of Dan Stevens — more like Peeta/Josh, dressed as he is, could’ve joined the Downton team for the big cricket match! But the funny thing is that I’ve thought at times that Dan/Matthew was kind of Peeta-ish. So, yeah, I’m not averse to mixing up fandoms!

And just to clarify, I think the suit is fantastic, and the unique seams and gold accents give it some edge. It really rounds out a lovely picture, that starts with the expression on his face.

  5.
    Hannah

Not what I imagined but I guess it’s ok. Hope that dress still goes up in flames !!!! :D it needs to look a little different.

  6.
    J

I don’t understand everyone’s disappointment. I love the dress, and I think it’s PERFECT for the book/movie’s purposes. It’s obvious – the ruffles are made for the twirling Caesar asks her to do, and when she’s twirling, the dress is supposed to spark (like it’s on fire) and turn dark, which will highlight the obvious mockingjay you can already see outlined on the dress, and will look absolutely stunning. Granted, yes, this is a key costume piece – but it’s not REALLY “key” until we see it post-transformation, after she twirls for Caesar and it transforms her into the Mockingjay….

    •
      SPM

Where do you see it outlined? I can only trace it in the metal pieces on the front and back, but the costume designer said those were meant to be flames, not wings.

      •
        J

Well, it partially IS inspired by flames, because the dress has to literally catch on fire for it to “transform”. But the “flames” are in the shape of a mockingjay. I think the designer is playing up the flame aspect more than the mockingjay aspect because the actual mockingjay reveal is supposed to be a surprise in the movie.

Here, I pointed out the parts of the mockingjay:

          •
            KATNISS ALLTHEWAY

plus it was meant to have sleeves that transformed into the wings???

    •

i did see the mockingjay shape. and i thought that was awesome, until trish summerville told us it’s supposed to represent flames, instead. now it’s basically made me doubt everything i ever thought i knew, haha– thanks so much, trish, for dashing my already-minimal fashionista hopes. :D

      •
        SPM

I know, right? It’s like she’s a book behind, or wants to correct the deficiencies of the first movie’s flame dress.

      •
        Ivana

You don’t think it’s in the shape of mockingjay by accident, do you? :) Of course Sommerville is not talking about it in an interview – the dress transforming into a mockingjay is supposed to be a surprise in the movie. Not so much if even the costume designer talks about its mockingjay shape in pre-movie interviews!

    •
      Satsuma

Hmm, what you’re describing seems rather underwhelming to me, though I realize I can’t really see what you’re imagining. The way the transformation is described in the book, I imagined the whole dress actually bursting into flame, or at least smoke, not just giving off sparks, and for an entirely different dress to be revealed underneath.

Your description makes me think the dress is just going to give off sparks like a sparkler, change color and maybe burn away a little, but that it really won’t wind up looking that different from the dress she started out with. That’s my main concern with this design, that the dress already has so many Mockingjay elements, that the transformation won’t be anywhere near as shocking as it would have been, if Katniss started out with a more standard-looking wedding dress, with no obvious Mockingjay inspiration.

      •
        SPM

That would be really disappointing, if true, and would also be suspiciously like the first flame dress reveal in THG. Pro tip for the movie budget folks: don’t do the CG on the cheap this time.

      •
        Ivana

I’m not sure that the dress bursting into flames without burning up completely – and without Katniss catching fire, too (ha!) and everyone panicking – is something that can actually realistically happen.

  7.
    Michelle

They could have at least given the dress sleeves like in the book.

    •
      Ivana

Why? Are the dress sleeves an important plot point?

  8.
    Kaleiney

After the dress is flamed, I suspect that, while this style will be the base, it will reveal more subversive, Mockingjay features than we can imagine from these first glimpses. Hopefully!

    •
      J

      THIS! Exactly!

  9.
    Zaire

I think they didnt ask Trish if it was the Mockingjay or not. You can clearly see the beak and the feet. I think she just didnt say it so that people would figure it out on their own, she didnt have to. Besides, it can symbolise a mockingjay and flames, so whatever. The fact that it looks soooo much like a Mockingjay cannot be a coincidence! lol She also says that the ‘laser cut feathers fit the mockingjay concept.’

In defense of Ms Summerville, I can’t believe that people are still complaining about little details from the book like sleeves or something. Its such a gorgeous dress, people are acting like little spoiled fangirls I see! Every costume is not only breathtaking, but they also have symbolism in them and little details and book references ( Johanna tree-dress with a bracelet of nails, Finnick seal-shedding skin, Peeta’s cuff-looking bracelets, Beetee’s cool geeky necktie, not tomention all the white roses! And Katniss standing instead of sitting)

Am I the only one thats like completely not dissapointed? Ok, they have given the dress away, but lets stay positive and hope that there are sooo many more things to come that they didnt give away yet! And of course they haven’t given the burned up version of the dress yet! People are so quick to be dissapointed, while I am actually really relieved.

      Excellent post :) I agree

    •
      Fczc

Zaire-I am with you on this one! I completely not disappointed at all!(the only things I didn’t love at first were Peeta’s boots and gauchos on Finnick-but Peeta’s boots sort of fit the futuristic feel. Still have not decided about Finnicks outfit though!)
As for Peeta’s outfit-I absolutely love the cut of the jacket and top-very sexy and different but not overly emasculating. The gold cuffs and pocket handkerchief from the designer’a line are interesting-especially for Peeta-they are reminiscent of handcuffs. I don’t see men wearing these gold cuffs everyday but you have to admit they do work with this outfit and are very Capitol!
As for Katniss’ dress- I am in love with it. I definitely see the outline of the Mockingjay on the bodice and don’t mind that Trish just discussed the flames. Maybe she didn’t want to give too much away for what the dress becomes for those who have not read the books.
I love how this dress is sturdy(the bodice) like Katniss, but also introduces some softness also(the bottom half of the dress).

I will admit that I am surprised that they have actually showed us the wedding dress this early, but feel that as long as we don’t see the transformation of the dress until we see the film then I am ok.

      •
        Satsuma

I also think that Trish may have chosen not to mention the Mockingjay aspect of the dress, thinking that would give a bit too much away. Anyway, both the THG and CF versions of the Mockingjay logo specifically showed a “Mockingjay on Fire”, so she could legitimately discuss the “fire” part of the logo and be partially correct.

    •

oh, i’m staying positive. the dress (and indeed, the whole portrait) is growing on me, really. after i saw it in HQ i was basically gobsmacked. but that doesn’t change the fact that “i wish they hadn’t given it away” was my first reaction.

either way, i’m eagerly awaiting for the transformation during the interview to really blow my mind.

    jenna

I understand how people are disappointed that the wedding dress would be revealed now, but I think it’s actually very clever of them to do this now.

THG is not Twilight (where the marriage is central and the wedding dress reveal is a big deal). I think they are trying to avoid that kind of marketing and hype because THG is not about the wedding. THG trilogy is about the rebellion. If we are all fascinated/awed by the wedding dress it takes away from the point of the movie (The Capitol would love the audience captivated by the wedding though). I think they want us to be captivated by the dress transformation to the mockingjay, and what that represents.

    •
      Zaire

Excellent point Jenna! We should adore the marketing team for not hyping up the whole love triangle thing! I remember an interview with the marketing team where they said that they got all of their inspiration from the fadom itself. They called us an ‘ecosystem’ and said that they saw that whenever someone said ‘team peeta’ or ‘team gale’ someone else said ‘lets not degrade it to just a love story!’ They studied us as a fandom and worked from that on. Amazing, no?

      •
        jenna

Speaking of marketing and our fandom ecosystem, Katniss wore multiple wedding dresses and the Capitol audience voted/commented on the selections. I just LOVE how we’re literally doing the same thing. Loving/hating it just like the Capitol! They freaking applied some of the marketing/publicity from the book to this movie! Okay, I might be reading way into this…

    •

well, i’m not seeing the dress as a wedding dress per se (though it is), but as a symbol of katniss being the mockingjay (and cinna’s guts in basically putting that out there for the entire world to see). that’s what i wish they hadn’t given away this early. if it was just any other wedding dress i wouldn’t mind, but it’s THE mockingjay dress. that’s why i’m a bit put out.

but i can live with it, i’m sure the transformation will blow my mind either way.

Makes sense. I have a hard time viewing fashion through any lens except practicality, but taken as art many of these costumes are really well done. I think the Effie’s red AQ is my favorite so far.

Keep in mind that THG was basically an experiment for Lionsgate. The budget was very minimal and thus, things were lacking. This time around, the budget is MUCH bigger, and thus, the effects, costumes, sets and such will be better.

I love this dress, and I think it will be even more amazing to see her moving around in it on film! And I absolutely can not WAIT to see it transform. The interview scene with Katniss and Peeta has been my most anticipated scene from catching fire.

  12.

The dress is amazing, but not how the description in the book. I’m not too bothered about that, though sleeves would have been nice so that we had wings. Finnick’s costume is pretty horrid however.

I still can’t decide if this is everybody’s interview outfits. I suppose that would make sense if Katniss is in hers. However, I do recall a long time ago when they were filming in Atlanta, some girl posted on twitter (not that I should take it to heart) that she was with her dad on set during the interview scenes and Peeta was in a tuxedo. Unless she was considering the white outfit a tuxedo.

Wow guys,it’s really not that bad.The only dress I didn’t like was Johanna’s,it just didn’t look flattering.Especially the color. The wedding dress is fine! Like someone said, the movie isn’t just about the wedding. So it’s fine releasing it early.I think the dress is beautiful and I can’t wait to see it on screen.Am I the only person that doesn’t have a problem with Peeta’s outfit? Some people are just so critical, and whine when they don’t get what they want.Go ahead and hate on my comment, but this is how I feel.I’m even more excited for the movie now!

    •
      Zaire

Nope.Im actually kinda happy with every single portrait (even with pirate finnicks, after I got the symbolism behind it) Johanna, (because of the bark details) Katniss, Effie and Peeta being my favs. (Josh looks incredibly handsome in that one)

  17.
    Millthrush

I hate to be a hater, but I while the dress is truly stunning, the dress–and the mockingjay transformation associated with it–was perfect in the book, and they shouldn’t have departed so far from it. That being said, I have three issues with this dress: firstly, while I’m sure the burning/transformation moment will be cool, it just won’t be the same for me without the sleeves; secondly, the dress just doesn’t say “Cinna” to me, in fact it deviates so far from the almost simplistic yet at the same time impactful and groundbreaking fashions that he creates that I find it insulting; thirdly, the design is so blatantly “mockingjay” that Snow would have never let it pass. I think the dress is beautifully designed and shows amazing craftsmanship, but it’s just wrong.

  18.
    Satsuma

I guess there’s two issues up for debate here; (1) Was it a good idea to reveal the wedding dress this early? (2) Is the dress design appropriate?

For (1), I actually don’t mind the wedding dress reveal. I would have minded if the black Mockingjay dress, the really rebellious one, was shown this early. I agree with Jenna that the wedding dress *shouldn’t* be what people are looking forward to seeing in the movie, since there is no actual wedding in the movie, and I doubt Katniss would have chosen to wear that dress herself. Yes, Cinna did design it, but if the movie follows the book canon, the Capitol citizens voted for the dress out of 24 other designs.

    (2) As to what I think of the dress itself; I am not that concerned that it deviates from the book. The costume Effie wears at the reaping was also different from the description in the THG book, and there weren’t too many complaints about that (though the movie made many other changes that I think most people cared about more).

However, I am somewhat concerned, that because the dress in current form has so many Mockingjay elements already, that the transformation to the Mockingjay dress will not be as dramatic, as if they had chosen a design without those elements. I hope they come up with something mind-blowing, not just have Katniss twirl around, have a little smoke come out, and have the feathers that were already ON the dress turn black. That would be very anticlimactic.

  19.
    kbelle

I’m so sick of the phrase “not how they described in the book”. Arrrghhh. I think there’s going to be much bigger changes in the movie than the wedding dress.

  20.
    RebeccaB.

You don’t deserve the time and effort the cast and crew are putting into this project if you are going to act like little brats over an early dress reveal! For those who have read the books, you know good and well the wedding never happens—and it isn’t the most important thing in the story. After all, this is not the turned dress. We have not seen it in its rebellious nature, as the mockingjay. What I mean is that we have only seen the interview wedding gown, selected by the Capitol people, but we have not seen it transform to the best part of it: the mockingjay.

This woman—no, everyone, has worked so hard to give us a good sequel, worthy of the fans’ admiration and the enjoyment of the moviegoers. Is that so hard to appreciate? Seriously, it’s quite appalling to scroll through these comments and read whining after whining complaints about it being “not right” and “revealed too early”. We know Katniss does not get married, and I very highly doubt she would’ve chosen such a fancy dress herself if she were to get married, but this is a beautiful and thoughtful piece for the movie, perfect for Katniss’ interview. You’re all acting as though the mockingjay aspect of it was revealed instead. You can get mad at me all you want, but it doesn’t have to be exactly like the book to be brilliant for the movie. You all should’ve learned by now that not every little detail from the books is going to make it into the movies—if you expect them to, then you might as well not watch them at all, because you are going to be sorely disappointed and angry.

My point is, the dress is perfect in every way possible. No, it’s not like the book, but is that really the most important thing? Hardly. What it will turn into is the highlight of it. I like this version better, actually. It’s over-the-top, gorgeous, and absolutely fits the Capitol. Something I could easily see the Capitol citizens picking out for their beloved Hunger Games victor. All I am saying is to be grateful. You can clearly see the mockingjay outline, and it will be amazing to see in the theaters. Much better than Katniss’ interview dress in the first movie, I believe. A lot of effort has been put into this. You have to accept that not everything in the book is going to make it into the movie—that’s just how it is.

“You’re all acting as though the mockingjay aspect of it was revealed instead.”

I don’t have a problem with the “wedding dress” being revealed, and I agree that the dress is gorgeous. The reasons I don’t feel comfortable JUST giving praise, though, is that the dress is SO gorgeous, I have a hard time imagining how Trish (or whoever she farms out the design to) can top it with the “REAL” mockingjay dress. Because the dress already looks so much like a mockingjay, I am also concerned that the transformation will be nowhere near as dramatic as I imagined from the book, when everyone is totally blindsided.

That being said, I think worrying excessively about this is premature, and I will try to trust in Trish that she is going to come up with something that I didn’t expect for the Mockingjay dress.

But Hollywood has so many things up their sleeve. The dress does turn black, right? With some white? I don’t remember it clearly—but since we can already see the outline of a mockingjay, and the feathers in her hair, and the look of the dress in general, I think it will turn into something really cool. I firmly believe that this movie’s costume designs are superior to the first one’s designs.

She would definitely fall up the stairs in this dress! (p.s. She’d look beautiful in anything)

Tackling all I’ve seen so far:

    1) “I don’t like the dress/The dress isn’t the same as the book.” I adore this dress. In my eyes, everything about it is perfect. I was praying, PRAYING that they would not recreate the dress from the book. That thing sounded like a hot (no pun intended) mess while reading, so I knew it wouldn’t translate well on the screen. I mean, weren’t the sleeves floor-length. Sounds like the resurrected version of 80s wedding dresses with a futuristic look. The black Mockingjay dress can still be pulled off, with or without the sleeves. Let’s just hope they have a higher CG budget than $35.50 like the first movie. The flames on the parade costumes and Katniss’s dress were laughable, not awe-inspiring.

    2) “Cinna wouldn’t design this.” True, but remember, the Capitol got to choose her look. She is no longer just ‘Female D12 Tribute’, she is “Katniss Everdeen, the Girl on Fire”. Of course they’d want something extravagant and gaudy for her to wear. She’s a freaking trend in the Capitol!

    3) “THG’s interview outfits looked like a prom gone wrong.” While they did have a certain “High School Musical” feel to them, I found it interesting and maybe even purposeful that they choose to go that route. Think about it: if the tributes were living in modern times, most would be in high school, eligible for prom (invited by upperclassmen or seniors). Instead of going out with their date/friends to a fun dance, these teens are getting dolled up to laugh and chit-chat the night before they’re forced to kill each other. Talk about screwed up! The QQ features not another batch of 24 random kids, but the Victors the audience have grown to love and are about. Of course they’re gonna receive better outfits. Still, that doesn’t excuse the look of some of the outfits in THG. They weren’t all bad, just budget-friendly.

    4) “Why would they reveal the dress so early?” Good question. I too thought they’d save this for the movie, or at least the trailer like how they did for the first movie. This won’t necessarily hurt them and in the end, this can’t be unseen anyway.

    5) “Some of these new outfits leave much to be desired.” I love all of the outfits. What’s wrong with Peeta’s boots? Would I wear them? No. But I think it works for the movie. I would’ve liked Johanna’s dress more if it was in another color (darker would’ve been nicer), but that’s minor. Finnick was not what I was expecting but still pretty good. It’s like a stereotype of District Four, which I could see the Capitol doing often when it came to dressing up Tributes/Victors. About his apparent lack of sex appeal, I don’t see the Capitol having him prostitute trashy on a painted portrait. It may be decadent and demented, but the ruling city would still want to display an element of class, esp. when it comes to something as serious as potraits.

I’m disappointed too! I don’t see how it’ll burn off to be the mockingjay outfit either since it doesn’t have sleeves…..I’m also REALLY surprised that they would reveal her dress!!!

I see the flame aspect now that it was pointed out, but originally, I thought they were wings. And I kinda wish they hadn’t revealed it. It seems too important of a detail to tell so far ahead of the release of the movie, especially since the trailer isn’t even out.

To the people who haven’t read the books, the dress having the shapes of wings on it means nothing until they see the movie.

if anyone hasn’t pointed it out already i’d like to say to me at least peeta looks like an astronaut! no? yes? that’s what I think!!!

I think she looks really pretty in this amazing dress! Though I do think she looks more like a swan than a mockingjay. But I LOVE swans. I’m gonna cry when Cinna gets killed in the movie. I think this new director has more of a futuristic style and I like that. The costume designers are doing such an amazing job with the costumes so far. I think this movie will be better than the hunger games movie. I didn’t think they did a good job on the special effects. But what ever I’m soooooo excited. By the way I am team Gale aaaaalllllllllllllllllll the wayyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A little disappointed…. her dress in the book had long flowy sleeves and seemed like it could be turned into a mockingjay more so than this one. although I do like the bottom because it looks like feathers. anyways hope that the movie is awesome unlike so many sequels.

i’m very disappointed from the costumes they are wearing specially katniss’s wedding gown, i mean i would like to see the dress that was described exactly what the book has said even the slim dress with the pearls embedded on it i mean the book even did not say that there was a mockingjay or flame on her dress and i cant believe suzanne collins did not stop this. i just like to see katniss’s change of dress and see the pearls fall that is one of the highlight of the movies but over all i still support the movie good luck on how you will portray it and God Bless with the movie!!!!

I’m secretly hoping this isn’t the interview dress, and it’s just ONE of the wedding dresses Katniss has to try on. Like a decoy, so then we can watch the film and be like: WOW THE DRESS!!!

Sadly, this seems unlikely, but a girl can hope!

I think that whatever they wear…they are just amazing. I really don’t care so much about it.
The important thing is the movie , the acting and the final result!….!
