Audio: Sam Claflin Has Seen The Catching Fire Trailer… Maybe
Sam Claflin was at last night’s Jameson Empire Awards and spoke to Empire’s Chris Hewitt about his lack of an Empire award and the exciting last few years he has had. Listen above or read the transcript below:
Chris Hewitt: It’s been a crackin’ year for you, Snow White and the Huntsman, Hunger Games: Catching Fire coming up. Finnick Odair. It’s an interesting character name.
Sam Claflin: Finnick Odair. Yeah. It’s been a bit of a whirlwind, for the last like three or four years. From Pirates to Snow White to Hunger Games, I’ve been kind of somewhat blessed with a very good group of people and also had great opportunities. Like I say, long may it continue! And fingers crossed, I’m trying to get away from that now, try and do some more smaller projects!
Chris: Not just these massive franchise behemoths.
Sam: Exactly. I’m trying to prove myself as an actor now. So keep an eye out I suppose.
Chris: The thing that surprised me about The Hunger Games, the first one, was that Jennifer Lawrence was so good in it. The performances were so good. It was this massive franchise movie but it also had cracking performances. So I imagine that’s something that’s going to continue in this one.
Sam Claflin: Yeah, very much so. We now we have myself, Philip Seymour Hoffman. All the same gang back but like Jeffrey Wright. It’s surrounded by fantastic names. And the director, Francis Lawrence whose come on board for this one and who will be at the helm for three and four, it’s very exciting times. You can’t help but be overwhelmed by the people I’m surrounded by. It’s a fantastic, fantastic franchise to be a part of. I’m excited to see the outcome really if I’m honest. I’m very, very- well I’m nervous, but I’m excited.
Chris: What have you seen?
Sam: I have not seen it, I’ve seen a trailer may- maybe, maybe! (Laughter) Uh, maybe I shouldn’t have said that but yeah. But I’m very, very proud of this. It’s one of the things I’m really excited to share with the world! It’s a fantastic feat, I think. Francis Lawrence is truly a wonderful director. So to have his touch on this franchise is a great, is a great thing.
Chris: And just before you go, and before people from Lionsgate shut us down and turn off the internet, what can you say about Finnick?
Sam: Finnick is a very complex character. From people who’ve read the books, they’ll know that he has his ups and his downs. He’s very much in love with Annie Cresta, this girl who goes crazy from his own district. He gets sort of put into the games to protect and preserve Katniss and her reputation. That’s pretty much my role, I’m a good guy.
Is there a teaser trailer on the way? Sounds like the odds are in our favor!
