Alan Ritchson Talks Catching Fire and Sam Claflin’s Broken Hand
Alan Ritchson, who plays Gloss in Catching Fire, dropped by the MTV Movie Awards and spoke to both MTV and E! about joining the second part of The Hunger Games franchise. First up, MTV asked about his experiences and which scenes he was most looking forward to. For all non-US residents who cannot view the video above, we have provided a transcription:
MTV: Tell us about joining an established crew that have been there for the first film. Did they welcome you in? Did they haze you at all?
Alan: No hazing, unfortunately, but to be a part of that – it was pretty cool. And Jennifer’s star has just continued to rise, even through production. It was just cool to be there and be a part of that cast and everyone was super generous and giving. I had to work with Stanley Tucci for a couple of days. He’s like my inspiration, he kept giving and giving and giving in those long days. It’s a cool thing to be a part of. And again, the frenzy around this, it’s amazing to watch. We have the best fans and I’m just so grateful to be a part of it.
MTV: Is there one scene from Hunger Games or the arena or anything that you’re particularly looking forward for fans to see?
Alan: [Laughs] Probably my death scene! Should I not say that? We shot some cool scenes. I particularly like the real physical, action stuff. Obviously now, doing Turtles, that’s something I really get in to. But we spent months training for this stuff and fight training and becoming a dagger specialist and to go out there and do some fighting on the day was a lot of fun. All those scenes in the arena are gonna be a lot of fun I think.
“Sam got hurt the worst… He broke his hand doing a stunt.”
Don’t look for footage of the mishap in a DVD extra, though. “It was in rehearsal, so we weren’t even shooting,” Ritchson said. “He broke it on the stunt guy, warming up. I was standing right next to him. It was tough to watch.”
But, Ritchson said, Claflin “took it like a champ—he took it and kept moving.”
