Thanks to HG Girl on Fire We have these still’s of Liam Hemsworth in “Empire State”.
Also an exclusive clip from Entertainment Tonight:
I honestly think his brother Chris is a better actor just to throw that out there. plus I think Chris is much better looking.
I’m honestly tired of all the Liam/Gale stuff we’re getting.
BRING ON MORE FINNICK AND PEETA!
I agree!! Its seems social media thinks this is the ‘Gale Games’ or something. I can’t go a day without hearing something about Liam or Gale. I need more Johanna. I wouldn’t mind more of Finnick too Plus, or stud Peeta
Isn’t this movie straight-to-dvd? My apologies to Gale/Liam fans but he’s not a good actor to me. His leading performance in the movie Paranoia was criticized as bland and no depth.
A movie critic from The New York Times even compared his acting to Taylor Lautner. It’s okay if I get a lot of thumbs-down from this. I’m just expressing my opinion.
Couldn’t agree with all of you more! So glad to hear that there are more and more of us out there who are tired of having the Gale character pushed down our throats!! (Nothing against Liam as a person –he is probably a good person-BUT I agree I just do not see what the media push is for because his acting is subpar at best!)
Am so tired of hearing about Gale/Liam everywhere and would love it if we could hear about Josh(Peeta) and Sam(Finnick). Josh has proven himself as a worthy actor in the US and abroad and believe that Sam has done the same in England–maybe that is why they are not being hyped?? Well they both deserve to be hyped too if we are going to have to be subjected to the Liam hype every day!(Especially Josh! He is fantastic and adorable).
Thank goodness some of you feel the same way as me with this overload of Gale or Liam stuff. I don’t care for his acting though, I think he’s taking pointers from Kristen Stewart. But I do hope he does some justice to Gale in Mockingjay but I could care less for Gale in general, he was the worst character behind Snow for me
Hollywood has some strange hold on Liam and amping up Gale’s character pointlessly. Yeah he is important to the story, but not as much as Katniss herself; PEETA IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN GALE!! HE WAS IN THE GAMES AND GALE WASN’T. There is no love triangle but they push it into our heads that there is one. I think I can safely say, with in the hopes of one other person on the site feels the same when I say, I was overjoyed when Gale left D12 behind. That his character didn’t have a good ending, i’m glad there wasn’t much said about him in the end. Hate me all you want but I would have been happier if Gale died and not my dear Finnick :’(
I couldn’t disagree with you guys more. What’s with all the hate on Gale?? Peeta’s always relying on katniss to get stuff done for him. It’s always “Carry me katniss” this or “help me my leg hurts again katniss.” Ugh he wouldn’t have survived without her! And Liam’s gorgeous guys lets be real, josh is like 5 feet tall.
haha that’s funny, if you think Peeta is weak then clearly you didn’t read the whole series that well apparently. ahahhahahaha your comment is so funny, and by funny I mean, ridiculously wrong ahhaahhaha I ain’t phased by your comment because there is like a thousand reasons why ANYONE could prove you wrong when you say he is weak. lol
oh wait, what’s that team gale I hear, let me see. N.O.T.H.I.N.G.
He wasn’t good enough for even the author to care about giving him a good exit to the series, he left her behind even from all they went through, what kind of friend is that?!?!?! A WEAK FRIEND if you ask me so let’s hear that ‘peeta is weak’ crap you spit again….try it.
The ugliness against josh is not necessary. You have obviously never read the books. Peeta is probably one of the strongest characters in the series. Who led the Careers away from Katniss? Do you even know why he needed Katniss’ help? Because he fought off Cato and was slashed by him with his sword and was bleeding to death. Who was the one that killed Brutus with his bare hands? Who was the one who, despite being captured, tortured, and hijacked, still maintained his humanity throughout the whole series? It seems you are basing your like of a character only on “looks” and your hatred of Josh on the same. So josh is 5’7″ and so that means he’s unworthy of anyone’s respect and admiration? Jen is only an inch taller, I guess she’s unworthy also.
Well, at least Josh is actually a talented actor and decent human being.
Exactly! And what pissed me off was that he showed zero remorse for Prim’s death. Gale’s only regret was that he no longer had a chance with Katniss. His best friend just lost her only sister, whom she dearly loved, and all he can think about is that? Katniss said it herself, she didn’t need Gale’s fire kindled with rage and hate. He hated anyone who was not like him and was more than willing to kill every single soul in the Capitol. That is where Katniss realizes their divide. Ugh.
You give Gale fans a bad name. People can be on Gale’s “team” all they want, but spewing the Peeta is weak crap as the reason why is just laughable. Don’t even get me started on your shallow reasons for why Liam is better than Josh. How Capitol of you.
Just because I said that Liam is not a good actor, it doesn’t mean that I hate him. If you listen closely to his dialogue in The Hunger Games, he couldn’t even deliver a convincing American accent and his range is limited. I hope his acting is better in Catching Fire.
I’m not a big movie buff but when I see one, the good acting comes first. Frankly, I’ve only watched The Hunger Games on cable a few months ago and I was very impressed with Josh Hutcherson. Just watching his facial expression, his eyes alone can evoke so much emotion without saying a word.
I’m giving you a virtual hug right now Posey! ahhaha couldn’t said it better myself. I agree with you on everything you said
Woah guys don’t get me wrong I LOVE Peeta and I love the hunger games. And josh hutcherson in is an amazing actor! In my personal opinion, I’ve always felt for gale because he never really had a chance with Katniss, because katniss and peeta were meant for each other. I’m sorry if I damaged anyone’s deep love for peeta, just because I was always rooting for gale. Imagine seeing the girl you love kissing another guy on tv! And of course peeta isn’t weak iI was just sick of seeing so many josh comments on Liam’s accomplishment! He’s a great actor as well!
And by no means did I mean any personal attack on josh hutcherson. He seems like an amazing person with a bright future ahead of him, and there could’ve been no better person for the role of peeta.
This. I liked Gale throughout the series but this is where I was like ‘hell no!’. He knew how much Prim meant to her and he didn’t even say sorry or express any sort of condolences about her death. He didn’t care that his bomb killed all those innocent children. If Prim wasn’t caught in the crossfires, he probably would have been really happy with his contribution to the war. He didn’t seem to care about Katniss’s mental health at the time. All he cared about was that now he lost her chance with her. WTF man, her sister just died! Show some compassion and stop being so selfish. Stop trying to guilt her. And when he lost his chance of being in a relationship with her, he went and left her to deal with the trauma by herself. Terrible, terrible friend. Contrast this to Peeta’s actions. The first time she sees him again in D12, he is planting primroses in honor of her sister.
It’s nice of you to apologize but I don’t how what you said wasn’t a personal attack on Josh. “And Liam’s gorgeous guys lets be real, josh is like 5 feet tall.” You are basically saying Josh isn’t gorgeous or deserving because he is short which is a very shallow attitude tbh.
Woah, there. It’s one thing if you don’t like Gale as a character, or don’t think Liam is a good actor.
But to say there is no love triangle?! I guess I must have imagined the part where Katniss was thinking about Gale when she was pretending to be in love with Peeta in the games. And the part where they kissed. And the part where she kissed him of her own accord. And the part where her jealousy started to boil the moment she imagined how she would feel if their positions were reversed. And the part where she thinks she might have ended up marrying him, if everything hadn’t happened. And the part where, when she chose Peeta, she explained why she hadn’t chosen Gale (meaning she considered him a choice).
Of course, there was a lot going on that made her confused and going back and forth (or not thinking about it because more important things were going on), but she definitely had romantic feelings for both of them, to varying degrees depending on where in the story. The love triangle was not the main aspect of the book, but to say there was no love triangle is denial.
“For the first time, I reverse our positions in my head. I imagine watching Gale volunteering to save Rory in the reaping, having him torn from my life, becoming some strange girl’s lover to stay alive, and then coming home with her. Living next to her. Promising to marry her.
The hatred I feel for him, for the phantom girl, for everything, is so real and immediate that it chokes me. Gale is mine. I am his. Anything else is unthinkable.”
I will admit I don’t like Peeta, or rather I don’t like him in relation to Katniss (and I expect a lot of thumbs down just for this, without caring about the reason). When he’s just being himself and not being Katniss’ Peeta, he’s sharp and fun. Unfortunately we don’t get much of this because from the beginning, before even meeting her, he was already in love with her. He was already willing to risk his life for her. Once he did meet her, his world revolved around her (self-admittedly).
I prefer characters with independence, and I also found it hard to suspend my disbelief of how that would even be possible (unless in reality you’re obsessed, rather than in love. it passed the point of infatuation when he joined the careers as a way to help her.. who the hell would do that for someone they hardly know?). I also don’t like sappiness, and although Peeta can be quite funny, he is also the main source of sappiness in this series. I much preferred the hijacked Peeta, though I missed his wit.
Unfortunately a lot of the Peeta fans in this thread can’t seem to fathom the possibility of respecting even disliked characters for their merit. Also, I found humor in the fact that all the “Gale is being pushed down our throats” comments coming in a thread that has nothing to do with The Hunger Games. As if Liam’s movie is a missed opportunity to promote Josh Hutcherson. I haven’t felt too hard of a push for Liam/Gale, if anything I feel like they’ve been pulling back on Josh/Peeta for unknown reasons. Perhaps they feel people’s ignorant reactions to Josh’s looks/height could hurt the marketing, which would be RIDICULOUS… but nonetheless is something Hollywood might do.
By the way, I have been a supporter of Gale from way before Liam was cast, I hate when people (not you specifically, but I’ve heard it a dozen times at least) generalize that Gale fans are shallow Liam-lovers. And, even though I would have preferred Gale, I accept that Katniss ended up with Peeta, and am just as unsatisfied with the turn his character took (I think he deserved better, and I also think it would have served to tie the loose ends more eloquently if Katniss had made her choice before the incident made the choice for her).
As for Liam, I didn’t mind his acting or his accent in the movie. It didn’t blow me away either, so I can’t say much one way or another considering it was only a handful of lines. I also haven’t seen him in anything outside of THG. Though, even if he was bad in other movies I think it won’t necessarily be an indicator for Catching Fire because, 1) the director and script have A LOT to do with performance; many amazing actors have given crappy performances in crappy movies, 2) that was a leading role, right? so if he is simply not strong enough of an actor to be compelling on screen for 80% of a movie, that shouldn’t be a problem for Catching Fire/Mockingjay. Let’s hope that’s all it is.
Sorry for the rant, but then again there was plenty of ranting going in the other direction. Considering how unbalanced it was with everyone just agreeing with each other, I felt the need to contribute some meaningful representation of an opposing view.
I will be the first to admit that Peeta isn’t perfect. But at the end of the day he is a good guy. It’s funny that you hate Peeta for loving Katniss but are willing overlook all the awful things Gale did during the war. Not to mention the way he treated Katniss sometimes. Getting mad at her for not returning his feelings and acting all territorial. I didn’t like it when Peeta did it either but at least he apologized to Katniss for assuming too much. And Gale abandoned her at the end of the series. He didn’t even care his bomb killed Prim, all he cared about was that it cost him a relationship with Katniss. Peeta fought through torture and brainwashing and came back to D12 to support Katniss.
Wow there are a lot of very defensive Peeta fans out there! Cant a person be entitled to their own opinion? just because most of you are Peeta fans doesn’t mean you have to go hate on Gale fans. I see smack talked on Gale all the time but this is like the first time anyone’s ever said something other than’s “Peeta’s perfect.” Sheesh… (now let the dislikes begin)
If you dislike Peeta, that’s fine. To each to their own. But coming here and talking shit about Peeta, how’s he’s weak or something stupid like that is uncalled for. Obviously fans will defend him, you can’t be surprised by that. Peeta fans aren’t gonna agree with mean comments from haters just to be nice. Not to mention when people talk smack about the actors especially when it’s shallow stuff that are beyond their control, like when people bring Josh’s height into it. I don’t condone it when people do the same with Liam/Gale. And if you think Peeta/Josh doesn’t get a lot of hate you are wrong. Just go on ONTD or some other mainstream media sites. These people tear up Josh/Peeta in every thing.
gale left. he didn’t care enough to stick around for katniss’s sake, like so many of you stated. In the end, he left and THANK GOD FOR THAT HE WAS A *BLEEP* lol
So people can pick on Gale but not Peeta? That’s hypocritical.
You are so shallow! Hating on Josh because he isn’t super tall. I bet you are one of those people who would rather have a cookie cutter pretty cast like the ones from TMI or Twilight rather than good actors. I mean who cares Josh is a good actor and he makes a damn good Peeta, he is short so it must mean he shouldn’t be here, side-eyeing you a lot for that comment. I think we are lucky that a nice stand-up guy like Josh is in our series. Lionsgate could have just as easily hired any of those young hollywood douchebags without an ounce of talent but six feet tall with six packs. Maybe I am the only one, but I am glad they cast Josh instead. FYI Josh is 5’7” and not 5 feet as you said. Jen is 5’8” but likes to wear 5 inch heels on the red carpet. At least Josh is secure enough in himself to stand next to her and pose for pics.
I reeeaaally doubt Gale didn’t care that his bomb killed Prim. He knew her for years and looked after her, and Katniss was always talking about how people couldn’t help but love Prim. Perhaps he didn’t apologize for it, but that’s what people do when they feel guilty.. they internalize it in and it eats away at them. Some of them are able to later ask for forgiveness, but a lot of them don’t (either because it’s still hard, or they fear it will only make things worse to open up old wounds).
He is a hot-head, sure, not the most desirable traits. And Haymitch is an alchoholic. And Effie is shallow. And Katniss has her selfish moments. And Johanna is the hot-head of hot-heads. Have they all apologized for all their moments of weakness? Does it keep you from liking any of them?
Also, he disappeared out of her life because he knew it would cause less pain for Katniss that way, she acknowledged that much. That’s hardly abandoning, considering he loved Katniss and I’m sure he would have rather not cut her out of his life. Peeta COULD stay to support her, Gale couldn’t do the same without causing more pain.
I don’t “hate Peeta for loving Katniss,” I don’t find that part of his character believable and so I’m unable to relate to or care about him in that context. His motivations have a major flaw, resulting in his actions making no sense to me. How can I like a character without having that basic level of understanding? BUT I still acknowledge that he has some good points, and understand why other people could like him. I just can’t get past that, myself.
I’m not asking for people to prefer Gale over Peeta or to find him to be flawless. I’m just saying that for some reason people have no ability to think in his shoes and instead demonize him for his role in Prim’s death (though if you invented a gun for our US troops and then someone used it to kill your combat nurse friend, you would feel awful but I’m sure you would think it unfair for people to blame you directly for the death). It’s as if his years of close friendship, looking out for, caring and respect for Katniss and her family count for nothing.
His actions at the Nut cannot be ignored though. That was callous. How quickly he condemned those people to death just because they fought for the wrong side. He didn’t seem to care that some of those people were innocent. That’s the difference between Katniss and Gale. Katniss always thought of killing as a last resort and even though those deaths ate away at her. Gale never had to look in the eyes of his victims or their families like Katniss did. Before the first games, he likened killing tributes as killing animals. Katniss saw people in shades of grey, Gale only saw them as ‘us or them’ and anyone who wasn’t ‘us’ was automatically horrible. Look at the way he treated Madge and Katniss’s prep team. His rage blinded him. These ‘us or them’ and ‘the end justifies the means’ mentalities are horrible to me. Also let’s not forget Gale and Beetee designed those weapons to target medics and civilians. The first bomb killed the people who were targeted and then the second bomb which had more power targeted those who came to help the victims. My dad worked in the army for many years, so that is something I can never get past. It is one thing to build weapons that will target soldiers but another thing completely to build weapons that will prey on human compassion. Do you think Gale would have regretted the bomb if Prim wasn’t killed because of it? That bomb served its purpose: it killed many civilians, soldiers and medics and helped end the war. He probably would have thought it was a great contribution to the war.
Personally I think Gale would have felt different once he saw the devastation and understood the effect. He’s not a bad person, he’s just, as you say, blinded by rage.
But once the rage subsides he would have been able to see more clearly what he had done. I like to think that what happened to Prim was a real learning experience for him, and that he takes that with him in his career. He is probably a better leader for it, having the first-hand experience of what can come out of letting a need for vengeance cloud your judgment.
This is a common thread in many stories that deal with revenge (that it doesn’t solve your problems or make you feel better, in the end), and it’s the entire point of the ending with the vote for continuing the Games and Katniss taking out Coin. Even though we didn’t get a chance to get a closer look at Gale after the war, I think this is a direction Collins would have taken if she had. She never presented Gale as an evil or irredeemable, just one who made mistakes or were unable to empathize.. much the way Johanna voted for sending Capitol children to a new Hunger Games, but she is not a bad person because she couldn’t separate those she hated and deserved it from those that were only in the wrong place at the wrong time. She was just hurt and angry, and unable to separate those feelings from her decisions.
It’s not about being able to pick on Gale but not Peeta. Stating facts about a character is not shitting on them. We can have a discussion about characters without bringing in malicious hate for an actor. For some reason, this site encourages and allows a lot of hate for Josh and Peeta. I don’t understand it.
