From Deadline:

“The book publisher’s stock price rocketed 19% on heavier than usual trading this morning after it reported that sales of The Hunger Games trilogy contributed to startlingly strong results for the quarter that ended in February. Scholastic had a net loss of $3.2M, an improvement from last year’s $25.1M loss, on revenues of $467.0M, up 21.5%. The figures may lead analysts to tear up their spreadsheets: The Street expected revenues of just $393M. Meanwhile, the company’s net loss of 10 cents a share contrasted with the consensus forecast of a 70 cent loss. Sales for Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games ‘reached a high point in the quarter, ahead of next week’s highly anticipated movie release,’ CEO Richard Robinson said.”

Wow, huh? The world really is going crazy for ‘The Hunger Games’ series!

When photos from The Hunger Games: Official Illustrated Movie Companion surfaced on Tumblr from lucky early shoppers on the East Coast in early February, I couldn’t help but look at them. I know people had mixed reactions, some being upset at spoilers and others having a feast with their eyes. For those worried about being spoiled with their book experience that first day the pictures surfaced, not to worry because the book actually contains much more than what was initially flying around Tumblr.

I read through the entire companion and found it absolutely fascinating. Written by Kate Egan, Suzanne Collins’ editor at Scholastic, this companion brings to the Hunger Games fandom a wonderfully composed guide of the book’s journey from Suzanne Collins to Scholastic to Lionsgate and soon to the world. While fansites can piece together all the information gleaned from interviews and Q&As to come up with a rough picture, Egan provides you with the real thing; a true insider’s look into the rise of The Hunger Games.

Cleveland County, North Carolina was the scene of a ‘Hunger Games’ giveaway today where 1,000 copies of the novel were handed out to readers across the county.

When it opened its doors, the Cleveland County Memorial Library had 384 copies of ‘The Hunger Games’ to give out.

For the next 27 minutes, library director Carol Wilson handed out an average of nine books a minute to Cleveland County residents hungry to read the book.

And the library wasn’t the only site attracting readers. In all, 1,000 copies were made available at locations throughout the county. By the end of the day, the majority of books had been given.

The Harvard Lampoon loves to mock the popular books and so of course, it’s no surprise that they had to hit up The Hunger Games eventually. Their parody book ‘The Hunger Pains‘ will be released next week and today Entertainment Weekly unveiled a parody trailer to help promote the book. Their website has the first chapter so that you can sample it to see if you’d like to give it a look. The book will be released on February 7, along with like 500 other Hunger Games books. (I kid!)
