Last night, Elizabeth Banks sat down with Jay Leno on ‘The Tonight Show’. She told him about the three-hour process of becoming Effie every morning, various fan encounters, her son’s first birthday, and more.

I love the part where she describes her son’s first encounter with sugar and chocolate!

Moviefone sat down with Woody Harrelson, where they discussed Elizabeth Banks and the relationship the two of them created between Effie and Haymitch.

You got to work with Elizabeth Banks and annoy the heck out of her.
[Laughs] Yes. Did you talk to her?

Yes. And she said she worked out a whole backstory between your characters where Effie is crushing on Haymitch and Haymitch wants nothing to do with her.
That’s so funny she said that! I just thought we had a little spite for each other. Like, I look at her as just this highfalutin dame in the Capitol who has no sense of reality or what’s going on out in the districts. Haymitch is hard on her. That’s not so much in the book, but it just felt right at the time. I haven’t heard her side of it, which intrigues me.

Well, there are sequels, so you can explore that side of things. And she did say that in real-life, she has a crush on you.
[Grinning.] I wish she could have said something earlier!

Can’t wait to see how they develop the chemistry between their two characters in ‘Catching Fire’!

‘The Hunger Games’ cast (Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, and Donald Sutherland) chatted with Kyle McCarthy of NerdTears.com, and it really is a fantastic interview! Very intelligent, thought out questions are asked, and all of the cast members have great responses. There is some swearing, so just a heads up on that if it bothers you!

Gotta love Jennifer: “I want to see Matt Damon with a side braid!” Here’s my favorite excerpt from the last section with Donald Sutherland, who plays President Snow:

Kevin McCarthy (NerdTears.com): My favorite line in the whole film is that you say, “Hope is the only thing stronger than fear.” It’s a wonderful line!

Donald Sutherland: “That’s not in the book! It’s Gary Ross. He’s a writer of such intelligence. He was able to get the very essence of the film, the book, everything, in a couple of words. He’s able to say, ‘Okay, we take 24 people. We could kill them all. Why not? I’ll tell you why not. We leave one alive, because hope is stronger than fear.” Hope is a spark, it gives people hope, a spark. You have to be careful that spark doesn’t become a flame, because that flame will burn you.”

UPDATE: The scene that Donald Sutherland is referencing (“Hope is the only thing stronger than fear“) has been released, you can watch it HERE!

Glamour Magazine has 6 Secrets You Need to Know About ‘The Hunger Games’ and in that article, they have two new digital images of Katniss and Effie. The Katniss image can be seen in the Illustrated Companion (Which is currently unavailable and listed as “Under Review”. Anyone know what that’s about?!?) but this Effie one looks totally new! I can’t wait until Lionsgate releases the hi-res of this one because then we’ll get a closer look at those infamous “couldn’t use the bathroom” nails Elizabeth Banks has been talking about!

New Picture of Effie, Haymitch and Peeta

We have a new still from the movie! In the first picture, you can see Effie liberally re-applying her make-up and then, in the second we get a zoomed in picture of Haymitch and Peeta and their elaborate (and delicious) looking capitol dinner. The white roses in the pictures can only be the work of President Snow, who is in the small inset in the first picture! What scene do you think this could be? The train? The training center?

Elizabeth Banks Talks Effie with TheFABLife

In an interview with TheFABLife, Elizabeth Banks talks a bit about collaborating on Effie Trinket’s look.

“I’m really happy to talk about The Hunger Games, especially with fellow fans,” she said. (You see that? We are “fellow fans” now!) “It’s going to be a great movie. Anytime you make something that you know is going to be highly entertaining and is about something, it’s a really special experience and something that I’m really looking forward to sharing.”

Twitter fans asked us to ask her about Effie costumes, naturally. But despite our newfound bond, she was pretty vague on the matter.

“Effie Trinket is a really theatrical person; she’s outrageous,” she said. “I know that people have a lot of ideas in their minds about what she should look like and we just had a great collaboration. This is what we came up with and Suzanne Collins blessed it, and that was our goal, just making her happy.”

After what’s been revealed on Capitol Couture so far, I admit to getting a whiff of Oscar excitement for next year in regards to Costume Design. It would be amazing to have Effie be at the forefront of that!

New Image of Katniss, Haymitch, and Effie in a Green Wig

Check out this really awesome new image of Katniss, Haymitch, and Effie (in her green wig!!) watching what’s either the recap of the chariot scene or the announcement of their training session scores. There’s a whole lot going on in this image, so let’s break it down!

  • This is a much better look at what we now know is the training center room where they watch TV events and meet for strategy.
  • A new outfit and wig for Effie, with a very poofy shoulder area of a bright aqua blouse with matching miniskirt.
  • We see a bit of Haymitch’s attitude in the way he’s “sitting” with a drink on his belly, watching with a mixed look of concern, hostility, and nonchalance.
  • Katniss is curled up and looking up at the TV with anxiety.
  • Peeta’s legs! Ooh la la! (kidding)
  • Two light blue drinks sit on top of the counter. What could they be?! I should start looking into this for Fictional Food!
  • An odd glass (?) decoration can be seen behind them. Just part of the room?
