The Katniss Everdeen Barbie Doll

Today, Entertainment Weekly gave us a sneak peak at Mattel’s new Katniss Barbie.
This Katniss isn’t wearing her reaping dress — instead, and rather fittingly, she’s wearing what she wore into the Games and comes complete with a miniature mockingjay pin, bow and arrow, forest-tromping boots, and that one, plump braid.
“I chose to dress her in the outfit she wears during the games, since this is where all the non-stop action takes place and is instantly recognizable by fans,” says Greening of the Katniss Barbie. “Of course, she wears her mockingjay pin proudly on her lapel.”
Designers at Mattel created Katniss’ look by going straight to the source and examining the actual costume that Jennifer Lawrence wore in The Hunger Games. “Hopefully Hunger Games fans can appreciate the attention to detail,” Greening says.”The doll’s minimalistic style and details — such as her loosely braided hair and makeup-free look — also really embody the heroic character Katniss.”
Of course, it took a true fan to create such a doll. “I am a huge Hunger Games fan and loved all three books, so it was truly an amazing experience for me to be able to design the Katniss Barbie doll,” Greening says. “I think it really pays tribute to Katniss and The Hunger Games.”
The Hunger Games‘ Katniss Barbie will be available everywhere in August and for pre-order starting today at 12 p.m. ET at BarbieCollector.com and various other online retail outlets.
What do you think? Will you be pre-ordering your very own Katniss Everdeen?

If you are determined to collect every magazine cover with ‘The Hunger Games’, there’s now one more for you to get your hands on! In addition to their special edition Hunger Games issue, People magazine has put Katniss on the cover of their March 26 issue.
“One day we went down to a creek to catch a crawdad, ’cause Liam didn’t know what it was,” recalls Lawrence. “I saw one and was like, ‘Catch it!’ Josh did and it got stuck to his hand. It was a leech! Then we went to Walmart and bought slingshots.”
Adds Lawrence, who also spent time with her cast mates listening to costar Lenny Kravitz play music back at their hotel: “It was like some weird summer camp.”
This edition will be on newsstands this Friday!

Take a look at this new LQ still of Katniss sitting while in the Arena. The picture is very small, but since she’s got something in her lap and she’s saluting, odds are this is the scene after a certain character dies when Katniss receives the District 11 bread via silver parachute. *sniff*

Katniss is on the cover of the March issue of UK magazine TotalFilm, which hits newsstands today and is also available on iTunes. TotalFilm is also going interactive for the first time with this issue, allowing you to place yourself on the fiery cover of the magazine if you buy the online version through their Blippar app.
Get a preview of the interactive issue here. In the meantime, here’s a short quote from Jennifer Lawrence:
And just how gory is The Hunger Games (which has narrative similarities to Battle Royale and The Running Man) actually going to be?
Lawrence confirmed: “There’s blood, death, stabbing, spears and arrows going into people, but you can have the impact of violence without being gory.”
Rolling Stone Releases Image of Katniss and Cinna Before Launch

In a new interview with Lenny Kravitz, Rolling Stone revealed a new image of Cinna and Katniss in the launch room. This is no doubt that point when Katniss says they stop speaking to each other and they simply wait. Goosebumps!!!
Kravitz took the role after meeting with director Gary Ross (Pleasantville) and reading the first book of the best-selling trilogy by Suzanne Collins. “I thought it was really good storytelling,“ Kravitz says. “I’m very much into stories. The character was interesting. I like Gary’s previous work. And I said, Yeah, let’s go.”
In The Hunger Games, his character creates a series of striking outfits for the young warrior, which isn’t exactly a stretch for the stylish rocker. “He’s very streamlined, he’s very quiet,” Kravitz says of Cinna. “He knows what he’s doing. He’s confident. He’s got a big heart. I just liked the way he moved – very smooth.”
As a musician, Kravitz is used to being in total control of his work – writing, performing and producing – and that control reflects on him as an artist. “It’s about me, as it should be,” he says. “But in this case, it’s got nothing to do with me. It’s about a director’s vision, a character, and I really like that.”

Allures Breaks Down Katniss’ Opening Ceremony Look

Allure Magazine, which boasts quite a few Hunger Games fans on staff, has examined Katniss’ Opening Ceremonies look and talked with The Hunger Games makeup artist Ve Neill on you can accomplish the same look on your own. (though it seems we’re all still in the dark about her hair!)
Eyes: Neill used M.A.C. Eyeshadow in Orange to create the flare in the outer corners before lining her eyes in black cream liner. She added Urban Decay False Lashes in Lure for extra intensity. “The more makeup you put on a beautiful woman, the more exotic and mature she looks,” said Neill. “We wanted to keep her looking really youthful.”
Cheeks: Neill drew attention to her “beautiful, heart-shaped face” by highlighting her cheekbones with M.A.C. Lustre Drops in Sunrush (a liquid gold highlighter).
Lips: Those lips (which spend the last half of the Games kissing Peeta) were amped up with L’Oréal Infallible Lipgloss in Fiery (a bronzey pink). “We wanted it to be clean, crisp beauty with touches of color,” Neill said.
