Welcome to Mockingjay.net, the most visited source on the web dedicated to the Hunger Games! We were founded in July of 2009, before the title of the third book had been announced. We're here to have fun with other Hunger Games fans with discussion, contests, the Jabberjays podcast, and an up to date news blog that covers anything related to the books or the upcoming film that is being made by Lionsgate.

Discussion Wednesday: How Would Katniss Go Down in History?

How Katniss would go down in history? A brave rebel leader, an unstable but temporarily necessary zealot, or a girl broken beyond repair thrown by chance into a position of power?

Thanks to Katie and Gwendolyn for the discussion idea!

Discussion: Would Hailee Steinfeld Be Perfect as Katniss The Hunger Games?
Posted by Kimmy • 152 Comments »
Categories: Discussion Wednesday, Fan Submission Saturday

1. She looks the part. Hair, skin tone, a little younger than sixteen because Katniss is small in stature and light for her age, being one of the smallest tributes in her games. Even though Hailee is younger than 16, she is mature enough to pull it off.

2. Acting chops. She starred opposite Matt Damon and Jeff Bridges in ‘True Grit’ and stole the show, and blew away critics.

3. She’s a new face. All the ‘next big thing’ movies (Twilight, Harry Potter) cast entirely new leads that blew up as celebrities. ‘True Grit’ is Hailee’s first project.

4. Personality and Charisma – Watch the interview and you’ll undertand why even away from the role, she’d be a fan-favorite.

5. She can do a great southern accent. In the audio-books District 12 inhabitants have slight southern accents, and Hailee does a great one in ‘True Grit.’ (Watch Clips Here)

Just trying to stir up discussion here since I didn’t do a ‘Discussion Wednesday’ or ‘Film Friday,’ and this could even be MY Fan Submission Saturday! Do you agree, disagree, who would be YOUR perfect Katniss? I would love a complete unknown as well, but I can’t really suggest a particular one…considering they are unknown. Hailee is as close to an unknown as they come.

Discuss!

Discussion Wednesday: Does Madge Undersee Have a Secret?

“Madge walks straight to me. She is not weepy or evasive, instead there is an urgency to her tone that suprises me. “They let you wear one thing from your district in the arena. One thing to remind you of home. Will you wear this?” She holds out the circular gold pin that was on her dress earlier. I hadn’t paid much attention to it before, but now I see it’s a small bird in flight. “Your pin?” I say. Wearing a token from my district is the last thing on my mind. “Here I’ll put it on your dress all right?” Madge doesn’t wait for an answer she just leans in and fixes th ebird to my dress. “Promise you’ll wear it into the arena, Katniss?” she asks. “Promise?”

Does Madge Undersee have a secret motive for giving Katniss the pin?

Discussion Wednesday: Your Hunger Games Name
Posted by Kimmy • 609 Comments »
Categories: Discussion Wednesday

This is really more of an activity than a discussion, but anyways, have fun and share in the comments!

That’s right, peeps! No longer shall you have to suffer the slings and arrows of having a normal name, found in the typical Baby Names books! Nor will your offspring have to suffer in ironic sameness with all the other Mackenzies, Ashleighs, Ariannas, Isabelles, Madisons, Aidans, Jacksons and Jaydens in the Tumble Tots play center. FYA is here to save you!

The rules are simple! Just write down your answer for each of the questions, and then combine them in the end.

Be sure to post your Hunger Games name so that we know how to eulogize you during our Mass Funeral for Tributes!!

1) Write down the second syllable of your middle name.

* If you do not have a middle name – what is wrong with you? How did you know when your parents were mad at you? Anyway, you should use the second syllable of your first name.
* If your middle name is only one syllable, you may use the second syllable of your last name.
* If none of your names have more than one syllable, your parents obviously read the children’s book Tikki-Tikki-Tembo, and you may use any syllable you like from Tikki-Tikki-Tembo-No-Sa-Rembo-Chari-Bari-Ruchi-Pip-Peri-Pembo’s name.

2) Write down the name of a plant.

3) Write down the second syllable of your first name.

* If your first name is only one syllable, you may use the second syllable of your last name.

4) Write down the first initial of the last name of your favorite English teacher from school.

5) Write down one simple action verb (i.e. “run,” “jump,” etc)

Now, get your results!!

Combine the answer from #1 with the answer from #3. That is your first name.

Your middle initial is the answer to #4.

Your last name is your answer to #5 with your answer to #2 added to the end.

“My face is relatively clear of makeup, just a bit of highlighting here and there. My hair has been brushed out and then braided down my back in my usual style. “I want the audience to recognize you when you’re in the arena,” says Cinna dreamily. “Katniss, the girl who was on fire.”
