Hot on the heels of the release of images of Mattel’s Katniss Barbie doll, Tonner Doll company has announced it has acquired the license to create likenesses of Katniss, Peeta and Gale.

The Hunger Games TONNER CHARACTER FIGURES™ will range from 16″-17″ tall with multiple articulated joints for expressive poses and mobility. In keeping with the fine detail and high-end quality of Tonner’s other popular product lines, they will feature hand-painted facial features, and high quality Saran hair.

Robert Tonner, CEO and acclaimed doll artist, will be overseeing the creation of the unique figures, which will be made to a ¼ scale. With authentic costuming based on actual costume samples from the film that were provided by the production, no detail will be overlooked, and the dolls will be sure to satisfy even the most attentive fans.

In the two short videos below you can catch a glimpse of Katniss’ infamous Mockingjay pin, as well as a very quick peek at the Peeta doll! There are no details regarding price or release date as yet, so we will bring you this info as soon as we find out.

It’s been a while since I posted a T-Shirt Tuesday, so I figured I should do one today. Unlike most of the other shirts I’ve posted, this is an official Hunger Games shirt from Hot Topic, which I’ve heard has been selling out of a lot of their Hunger Games merchandise in the wake of the movie’s popularity. Be sure to grab one of these before they’re gone! The shirt is available in as a womens shirt or as a mens shirt.

The Katniss Everdeen Barbie Doll

Today, Entertainment Weekly gave us a sneak peak at Mattel’s new Katniss Barbie.

This Katniss isn’t wearing her reaping dress — instead, and rather fittingly, she’s wearing what she wore into the Games and comes complete with a miniature mockingjay pin, bow and arrow, forest-tromping boots, and that one, plump braid.

“I chose to dress her in the outfit she wears during the games, since this is where all the non-stop action takes place and is instantly recognizable by fans,” says Greening of the Katniss Barbie. “Of course, she wears her mockingjay pin proudly on her lapel.”

Designers at Mattel created Katniss’ look by going straight to the source and examining the actual costume that Jennifer Lawrence wore in The Hunger Games. “Hopefully Hunger Games fans can appreciate the attention to detail,” Greening says.”The doll’s minimalistic style and details — such as her loosely braided hair and makeup-free look — also really embody the heroic character Katniss.”

Of course, it took a true fan to create such a doll. “I am a huge Hunger Games fan and loved all three books, so it was truly an amazing experience for me to be able to design the Katniss Barbie doll,” Greening says. “I think it really pays tribute to Katniss and The Hunger Games.”

The Hunger Games‘ Katniss Barbie will be available everywhere in August and for pre-order starting today at 12 p.m. ET at BarbieCollector.com and various other online retail outlets.

What do you think? Will you be pre-ordering your very own Katniss Everdeen?

Hunger Games: Coming Soon to a Console Near You?

Forbes reports that Lionsgate is considering developing a ‘Hunger Games’ video game for consoles. They’ve already released ‘The Hunger Games Adventures’ (free-to-play Facebook game) and ‘The Hunger Games: Girl on Fire’ for mobile devices, but what do you think of a game to be played on something like your XBox or PlayStation?

“Games have always been in the back of everyone’s mind since we picked up the rights to the books,” said David Hayes, vice president of digital marketing at Lionsgate. “Outside of the name that has ‘games’ in the title, it’s no-brainer that you’d make a game based on the book or movie. But we’ve been careful and cautious that when we do embark on a new project, we’re doing it the right way and delivering an experience that fans will enjoy. We’ve had many discussions about all the types of games, including console games. The two we released at launch are the best representation of what we’re setting out to do with these games.”

With the next movie due in 2013 and another two locked in after that, Lionsgate has plenty of time to partner with a game publisher and release at least a console game. Electronic Arts showed that games based on movies based on books can be successful with its Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings franchises, as an example. And a game publisher can avoid the controversial aspect of The Hunger Games arena battles altogether.

“I don’t think having kids battle to the death in the Hunger Games is a hindrance to a potential console game,” said Hayes. “If you look at the narrative arc across the trilogy of books, there’s an Old Testament-style story of Katniss versus the Capitol. It’s that grander story of having an enslaved people forced to compete in the games that’s very attractive to fans and marketers and anyone participating in the franchise. It gets people excited. The focus would be less on the kids killing kids aspect and more about the more powerful story of good versus evil.”

With Catching Fire, the second movie in the franchise, slated for a November 22, 2013 release, there’s plenty of time to develop a console game. There’s also time, with two additional movies slated to hit theaters after that, to develop a full-on MMO game like The Lord of the Rings Online or The Matrix Online.

If done correctly, I think a ‘Hunger Games’ console game would be amazing. And I don’t know about you, but I’d totally geek out over a Hunger Games MMO!
